Key Responsibilities

  • Support coordination and management of research initiatives in areas of interest related mixed migration.
  • Contribute to advocacy, promotion of regional dialogue, networking and coordination by facilitating and coordinating consultation/technical working workshops and conferences/meetings, and to actively contribute to the identification of areas/topics for articles, research or tool development.
  • Review written output by others (papers or reports by consultants; the monthly reports by the project officer, etc.)
  • Engage in RMMS support to capacity building and advice in the region in relation to mixed migration.
  • Budget control: Maintaining RMMS master budget overview and providing budget analysis on request and maintaining close control of all budget issues within RMMS – therefore the focal point for all budget control and monitoring and grants
  • Fundraising and accountability: Contribution to the preparation of RMMS donor concept notes, proposals and reports. Close control of reporting requirements (financial and narrative) or specific donors and the focal point in RMMS for liaising with the DRC grants team.
  • Representation of RMMS at external meetings, conferences and workshops in the region and internationally through presentations
  • Information management and research comprising: contribution to reports, feature articles, analysis and research as part of the senior level within RMMS focused on research, writing and analysis.
  • To perform analysis of regional mixed migration data, strategies, policies and legislation, and production and dissemination of quality reports under guidance from the RMMS Coordinator;
  • Maintain and manage a web portal: to assist and contribute to the smoothing running and high standard of content in the RMMS website.
    Guidance and direction to the RMMS Project Officer: offering assistance and line management guidance and direction to the RMMS Project Officer and other RMMS staff as and when requested.
  • Stand-in for the RMMS coordinator in his/her absence.

    Qualifications AND Experience

  • University degree (minimum) and preferably a Master's degree in International Law, Political Sciences or similar discipline;
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in similar positions involving information management, research and communications;
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in positions requiring planning, analysis and problem solving;
  • An active knowledge of the region and the socio-economic and political dynamics affecting it;
  • Some human rights/protection knowledge and international refugee law and/or proven interest and/or track record in the humanitarian agenda;
  • Having a good understanding and interest in the regional mixed migration dynamic in the Horn of Africa and Yemen;
  • Good IT command and close familiarity with the maintenance and management of template-style websites (but IT specialization is not required);
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills in English is essential;
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Experience in donor reporting (financial and narrative) and grants management
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to perform a series of tasks requiring the application of specialized and general skills;
