Danish Refugee Council Area Manager Kibondo Jobs in Tanzania


Background

The Danish Refugee Council has been operating in Tanzania from October 2015 since the establishment of Nduta refugee camp. DRC are now working in Nduta and Mtendeli refugee camps, with a current combined population of approximately 170,000. DRC are working in the sectors of Camp Management and Community Services (CCCM), Protection and Shelter/Construction, and livelihoods.

General Responsibilities

  • The Area Manager represents the Danish Refugee Council at Kibondo level and has the direct responsibility for the management, implementation and continued development of the program in the area.
  • The AM will directly manage program and support teams in the three program locations of Nduta and Mtendeli camps, and ensure the quality and effectiveness of the CCCM, protection, and livelihoods programming.
  • The AM will play a key role in the identification of new program opportunities for DRC in working with displacement-affected communities in Kibondo and is expected to seek further funding for the programme with support from the Deputy Country Director.

    Qualifications

    Essential:

  • Advanced University Degree in Economics, Social Science or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in programme
  • Management in a refugee setting, development and implementation of projects in emergency context, with additional experience in sustainable
  • livelihoods, including quality monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Experience of independently managing field offices including managing international staff
  • Experience working in refugee operations and in partnership with UN Agencies
  • Relevant technical expertise/experience in some sectors of humanitarian programming such as CCCM, shelter and protection as well as longer term livelihoods/resilience programming,

    The Danish
    Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent, humanitarian organization working on all aspects of the refugee cause in more than 30 countries throughout the world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC works in accordance with the UN Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Management
  • Develop, coordinate, plan, implement, monitor and report on DRC´s Livelihood Programming for the operation.
  • Based on existing assessments, he/she will design interventions, national and local strategies and plans for the implementation f Livelihood activities.
  • Conduct assessment and analysis of needs; existing and potential financial institutions or traditional mechanisms for cash transfer programme and identify innovative/alternative payment modalities in consideration with the security situation in target locations;
  • Contextualize cash transfer guidelines, tools and training materials prepared by the organization on cash transfer processes and make necessary recommendation where appropriate;
  • Lead in developing new sustainable livelihood and cash transfer programme initiatives/proposals and fundraising relating emergency and longer term response;
  • Conduct further assessments and assist in preparation of proposals

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Essential:

  • University Degree in agriculture/livelihoods and or equivalent to related field
  • Master’s Degree will be an add advantage
  • Minimum 7 years of international experience with humanitarian and/or development organizations
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in humanitarian cash/voucher and business development programmes
  • Experience working with government institutions and line ministries in economic development and poverty reduction programming is an asset;
