Danish Refugee Council Protection Coordinator Jobs in Kenya; The Protection Coordinator is technically responsible for ensuring quality protection programming and is the overall country‑level technical lead within the protection sector. The role includes leading country‑level protection analysis, strategy development and implementation, providing technical instructions and support, supervising protection staff, ensuring compliance with sector standards, leading monitoring and evaluation efforts, staff capacity building, development of protection tools, and advocacy messaging. The role also supports localization processes and strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities
R1. Protection Sectoral Technical Responsibility
Lead protection analysis efforts and develop/implement the country‑level protection strategy.
Oversee the protection portfolio and ensure AGDM in protection activities.
Develop, harmonize, and roll out internal protection tools, SOPs, policies, and guidelines.
Act as reference point for other sectors on protection mainstreaming.
R2. Technical Supervision
Supervise protection managers and team leaders, providing technical advice and guidance.
Participate in HR processes including recruitment, performance objectives, and appraisals.
Identify technical gaps and establish capacity‑building plans for staff.
Deliver structured and ad hoc technical support.
R3. Programme Development, Quality Assurance and Oversight
Maintain oversight of protection programme implementation, budgets, and indicators.
Participate in grant opening, review, and close‑out meetings.
Review and update technical approaches and SOPs.
Develop protection monitoring reports and review tools annually.
Revise case management tools and SOPs.
Support referral mechanisms through service mapping and workshops.
Provide technical trainings and capacity building to staff and partners.
Coordinate with other sectors for integration or mainstreaming of protection.
Facilitate regular protection team meetings for knowledge sharing.
Support MEAL in developing tools and accountability systems.
Oversee compilation of project reports and communications.
R4. Coordination and Advocacy
Liaise with UNHCR, partners, and government authorities.
Represent DRC at protection coordination meetings.
Collaborate with technical experts internally and externally.
Develop monthly protection monitoring reports with recommendations.
Support training on protection advocacy for civil society and stakeholders.
Lead development of advocacy strategies and plans.
R5. Project Development
Contribute to design, implementation, and evaluation of protection programming.
Lead proposal design, activity planning, and budgeting for protection projects.
Sign‑off on project proposals and budgets related to protection.
Perform other relevant tasks as requested by Line Manager.
Experience and Technical Competencies
Significant knowledge of International Human Rights Law, Refugee Law, and Durable Solutions.
Minimum 7 years’ experience implementing and developing protection programs in displacement contexts.
Experience in Child Protection, GBV programming, case management, and gender.
Experience with Protection Information Management systems and tools.
Experience in humanitarian work, advocacy, and policy development at national level.
Experience preparing protection programming and advocacy strategies for complex, multi‑site programmes.
Experience coordinating and standardizing approaches across multiple sites.
Experience integrating protection with other sectors.
Experience providing remote technical guidance and training.
Demonstrated ability to conduct trainings on protection and human rights topics.
Experience with MEAL tools.
Education
Master’s Degree in Social Science, Law, or Humanitarian Aid.
Languages
English (fluent).
