Overall Purpose of the Role:

  • The purpose of this post is to provide day-to-day management of prevention activities and other related activities in Rhino camp under the close supervision of Protection Team Leader.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    Coordination

  • Responsible to develop/strengthen relationships with agencies at the field level in close cooperation with the Child Protection officer and Protection Team leader

  • Responsible for representing DRC in any relevant field based thematic meetings with stakeholders and otherwise as needed

  • Actively coordinate with the field staff of other DRC sectors and other organizations

  • Actively participate in the regular sector meetings and in house coordination meetings
    Maintain and strengthen existing networks through other service providers at the zonal level, to ensure that Children receive quality services and support both at the agency levels.
    Actively participate in scheduled meetings such as Child Protection inter-agency Coordination meetings.

  • Work in close collaboration with the response team to ensure ongoing needs of children and girls are being met in the prevention related activities.

  • Strengthen existing referral systems and networks of psycho-social service providers
    In collaboration with other partners, design prevention activities/interventions within the refugee and host community.

  • Participate in conducting trainings for partners on relevant organizational development areas and support peer learning between DRC and other partner agencies.

    Project development, implementation and reporting

  • Conduct case management services for vulnerable children at risk. These will include cases of abuse, exploitation, neglect and violence especially UASC and other children at risk.

  • Identification and documentation of vulnerable children.

  • Conduct assessments basically BIDs and BIAs for vulnerable children.

  • Direct service provision basically through material support.

  • Conduct referrals and follow ups for children at risk.

  • Support the child protection case workers in terms of capacity building and technical guidance.

  • Conduct alternative care placements for the Un accompanied Children and assess their needs.
    Identify potential caregivers’ e.g. foster families for placement of un accompanied and Separated Children using stipulated procedures throughout the project lifespan.

  • Sensitize the parents/caregivers on their roles and responsibilities on early child development & protection throughout the project lifespan.

  • Conduct home visits to foster care homes and assess needs, ascertain the living conditions of the UAMs/SC and provide ongoing support to families, foster and alternative care systems.

  • Facilitate foster parent’s trainings on Child rights and general protection.

  • Conduct daily field visits to support child protection caseworkers and child protection community structures, mentoring through technical backstopping and to train duty bearers throughout the project lifespan.

  • Conduct child protection training for CPCWs, CPCs among other community structures.

  • Assist the protection team in organizing and delivering protection trainings and promoting the refugee law on the rights of children.

  • Contribute to the daily quality implementation, monitoring and evaluation of child protection related projects and interventions.

  • Contribute to the development of advocacy points based on assessment of situation and risks

  • Identify and
    strengthen community structures through engaging community leaders, camp management and other stakeholders to ensure that the survivors receive adequate support at the community level.

  • Facilitate formation of support groups to enhance community engagement & ownership on Child Protection prevention work.

  • Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time

    Staff Development and Management

  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership in this thematic area for DRC outreach workers and community based mechanisms in Rhino camp operational area

  • Develop staff performance measurements and targets and appraise them based on the set targets

  • Conduct daily field visits to support field staff through technical back stopping and to train duty bearers

  • Uphold DRC’s code of conduct and principles of accountability

    Communication/Reporting

  • Proactively contribute to quality and timely drafting of weekly, monthly reports,

  • Support and guide case workers in providing flash reports on major protection risks and incidents identified.

    Logistics / finance

  • Plan and coordinate proactively logistics and movement of staff from and to different villages

  • Support the Child Protection Officer to monitor financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow-ups.

  • Follow-up all DRC / DDG procedures for security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration

  • Responsible for complying with donors and internal DRC reporting and accountability policy and procedures

    Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Contribute to the daily quality implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects and interventions in Rhino camp.

  • Identify, document and disseminate relevant project success, challenges and follow up on implementation of project’s action points

  • Assist in participatory needs/vulnerability and capacity assessments of affected communities

  • Participate in project evaluations and assist in the analysis of results.

    Additional Tasks

  • On request perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisors in order to allow the organization to function optimally.
    Adhere to DRC’s code of conduct

    Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with vulnerable communities, basic needs and protection programming experience, and/or advocacy programs.

  • Professional training in Child Protection.

  • Experience in protection interventions in line with Refugees operation with wide Child Protection.

  • Experience of working with UN or Non‐Governmental organizations.

    Education

  • A University degree in Social Sciences, Social Works and Social Administration, Guidance and Counseling or relevant fields.

    Languages

  • Knowledge of the local languages spoken by South Sudanese and Congolese refugee is an asset.
