Water Technician

Duty Station:

This position is based in Kyakka II and will be providing support for the implementation of DRC Program. The jobs will periodic travel to the project areas.

Position and Reporting Line:

The Water Technician is responsible and reports to the WASH Officer and in his absence to the Project Manager.

General Objective

Water Technician is responsible for the inspection of all water sources to determine the technical requirements as per the set procedures.

Specific Tasks:

  • Perform inspection of boreholes, shallow wells and water pumps, and other equipment within the settlement to determine that all machinery is operating properly; perform minor adjustments to equipment as well as clean and lubricate to ensure machinery is maintained in good working order;
  • Perform compliance inspection of new construction which pertains to the settlements water and wastewater distribution system to determine that all fittings are installed and in accordance with prescribed standards, plans and specifications.
  • Assist with maintaining the building and grounds in a clean, efficient and orderly state. Assist in major repairs and installation of new materials, supplies, machinery and/or equipment.
  • Collect samples of water and wastewater for chemical analysis. May add chemicals in accordance with prescribed standards. May use basic diagnostic tools to determine PH range, presence of chlorine etc.
  • Install, maintain, remove, test and repair boreholes. Test water to determine flow rates and inform users of its quality.
  • Perform pressure checks and locate water/wastewater leaks
  • Perform standby duties on a regular rotating schedule.
  • While
    on standby incumbent is required to respond to emergencies;
  • Have working knowledge of requirements for locating underground utilities before excavation;
  • Communicates with the refugee community and host population along the settlement with necessary information as needed.

    Follow up all DRC / DDG Procedures for Security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.

    · Uphold DRC’s international code of conduct.

    Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
