The Danish Embassy is recruiting a pro-active, detail-oriented and outgoing consular officer. You will be working in a team of 3 employees.

The main tasks of the Consular Team include providing service and assistance to Danish citizens in need, updating travel advice, issuing of Schengen visas, case processing of Danish passport applications and residence permits and handling enquiries from Danish authorities in relation to regulation on citizenship, marriage, immigration, administration of estates and financial assistance. The team is also responsible for crisis and contingency planning.

Besides these tasks, you are expected to be ready to contribute to handling tasks outside your own portfolio.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities as Consular Officer

  • Printing of Schengen visas, Schengen visa enquiries and expediting residence & work permit applications (D-visas).

  • Handling of passport applications and other document enquiries.

  • Handling of certificates for Danish pensioners living in South Africa.

  • Providing service and assistance to Danish citizens in need and handling of consular cases, including prison cases.

  • Handling enquiries from Danish authorities in relation to regulation on citizenship, marriage, immigration, administration of estates and financial assistance

  • Updating contingency plans and our crisis management system.

  • Updating the Danish Embassy’s website.

  • Other consular tasks as needed.

    You will have the opportunity to learn the regulations and procedures from your colleagues and possibly through attending seminars and training in Copenhagen.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicants must hold a valid residence and working permit or be able to obtain such (Essential requirement).

  • Excellent writing ability and verbal communication skills in English.

  • EU, Swiss or Norwegian citizenship is considered an advantage as this is required
    for performing certain tasks in the systems.

  • A relevant educational background and preferably a minimum of 2 years work experience, preferably in public administration, business administration or similar.

  • Experience with consular cases and/or visa-applications is an advantage.

    Competencies and other requirements

  • Applicants must have the ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate good judgement and be able to work independently with a high sense of responsibility.

  • Strong administrative competences and ability to quickly read and understand guidelines and procedures and apply these in casework.

  • Applicants must be able to work as part of a team and have strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong computer literacy with competence in Microsoft Office packages.

  • The applicant must have a clean criminal record. Security clearance from Danish Police authorities will have to be obtained.
