An internship at the Danish Embassy in Nairobi will give an in-depth knowledge of how we communicate about the Danish presence in Kenya and Somalia and the broad range of instruments that are implemented under Danish development cooperation in Kenya and Somalia – including the bilateral programmes, Strategic Sector Cooperation, Trade council, Danida Market Development Partnerships and more.

The results and communications team works closely with all teams at the embassy to support result frameworks and communicate results and priorities to an external audience on e.g. social media. The intern will assist the team in tracking the results of our engagements and managing the external communication in relation to the Danish development cooperation to Kenya and Somalia.

Together with the responsible teams, we aim to further support Denmark’s ongoing advocacy work on key priorities such as women rights and climate change, in targeted online campaigns. The intern will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing and measuring the success of these campaigns.

Your Daily Tasks Include, But are Not Limited To:

  • Daily coordination of Denmark in Kenya and Somalia’s social media channels on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

  • Developing original content for our social media platforms, and source content from teams, reports and partners.

  • Production of videos, pictures, and graphics for social media using FinalCut Pro, and Canva
    Creating communications campaigns for events and development priorities

  • Assisting with project and events management
    Assistance in developing a results tracker and other results related tasks, including elaboration of success stories to communicate about achieved results.

  • We are looking for students from communications and development programs with a genuine interest in development, politics and the world around us.

  • Professional experience in social media is a plus.

  • Excellent writing- and organizational skills are required.

    Additional Competencies Include:

  • Experience in production of social media content

  • Ability to shoot and edit video and work on multimedia projects is an advantage

  • Ability to work with CMS

  • A good sense of storytelling - ability to quickly understand a new subject matter and detect compelling stories in data and results.

  • Demonstrates professionalism and understanding of Danish development cooperation and the importance of
    collecting and communicating results

  • Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and analytics programs

  • You are open, independent, and bring new creative ideas to the table

    Learning

  • As an intern in the Results and communications Team, you will have an opportunity to work closely with the development teams across the embassy to communicate about the priorities and activities related to the two country programs.   • As an intern, you will be acquainted with the practical workings of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These include learning about the management of development programmes, the coordination between the Embassy and Copenhagen and getting familiar with the financial and archiving systems used by the Ministry.

  • Other tasks will come up on an ad-hoc basis.

    The intern will accompany the team on at least one field trip the semester.

    Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree and admission at master level at a Danish University in a relevant field for this position.

  • Experience in communications, public relations, and possessing strong drafting/writing skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

  • Innovative, organized, and self-motivated with a keen interest in driving strategic messages to key internal and external role-players.

  • Familiarity with development policies, international relations and/or East African or Kenyan politics and dynamics is considered an asset.

  • Danish citizenship or fulfilling the following requirements: The applicant has lived in Denmark for a longer period of time (at least 3-4 years), is admitted at a Danish University or Business School and at the time of applying has residence in Denmark.
