Position SummaryThe Financial Inclusion Assistant will work under the supervision of the Project Manager – Livelihoods, Yumbe, West Nile.
S/he will support with the development and implementation of all VSLA activities including mobilization and beneficiary identification, formation of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), training on IGAs and reporting, among others.
The incumbent will support Digitalization of VSLAs, linking VSLAs to financial institutions for savings and credit,support the VSLA Game App project implementation in Yumbe; and training and monitoring of the VSLA agents. The incumbent will target both refugees and host community members.
The position will work very closely with the Digital and innovations coordinator and other Project managers to ensure all targets are met, high quality of work, identify and address programmatic and partner relations challenges in timely and effective manner.
Position Responsibilities and Duties
Support increased access of identified beneficiaries to financial services; including activities relating to Digitalization of VSLAs and linkage to financial institutions.
Work with DCA and community structures to establish new and maintain existing VSLAs with an aim of promoting financial inclusion and improving livelihoods.
Identify capacity gaps and challenges for beneficiaries, skills and knowledge they have in VSLA, business development and income generating activities and work with supervisor to effectively address them.
Support DCA field operations to raise awareness about access to finance for refugees and host communities within the financial community and to establish partnerships with qualified financial service providers.
Empower groups through training beneficiaries on VSLA methodology, including group governance and leadership, group dynamics, rapid appraisal of income generating activities.
Continuously monitor the progress and cohesion of VSLA groups through attending their meetings and ensuring proper documentation of share purchases, social contributions, borrowing and repayment of loans
Identify and build solid partnerships with the financial
sector, competent technical agencies and others that can bring knowledge, know-how and networks in support of creating financial inclusion opportunities for refugees and hosting communities.
Raise awareness about the needs of refugees and host communities in access to finance and on the work done by DCA in the area of financial inclusion by presenting at coordination meetings or at other forums whenever requested.
Mentor and coach groups to use the VSLA tool kit
Implement the electronic saving group information exchange Management Information System (SAVIX-MIS)
Actively participate in the periodic meetings and events
Document processes during farmer engagements and document change stories
Develop weekly, monthly plans and produce activity, weekly, monthly reports and change stories
Qualifications & requirements
A bachelor’s degree in development studies, economics, business administration, agribusiness, microfinance, SWASA or other related fields.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working directly in financial inclusion and digital literacy with community development, preferably in a refugee setting.
Proven experience managing community dialogues and working directly with beneficiaries
Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Knowledge and experience of VSLA methodology
Knowledge and experience training the financial literacy curriculum
Knowledge and experience using MS word, excel and power point
Team player and ability to work under minimum supervision
Languages
Fluency in English and local languages
