DAI Global WASH Finance Specialist Vacancies in Kenya


Essential Duties

  • Conduct in-depth analyses of utility audited financial statements, management accounts, MIS reports, debt service capacity, profitability, as well as current challenges in the informal settlements
  • Evaluate the demand for water and sanitation products and services and assess household capacity to pay.
  • Provide project specific advice and guidance to utility companies, WASH enterprises and agribusinesses on organizational and financial capacity and requirements for the project under consideration for financing.
  • Support utility strategic and business plan development, gathering data to inform and guide the process.
  • Guide and support development of investment proposal for banks, microfinance institutions, donors, counties and other partners, and facilitate communication with these entities.
  • Provide technical assistance to financial partners in credit policy, product design and methodology, and loan due diligence for water, sanitation and irrigation products.
  • Provide orientation to bank staff on water and agricultural sector financing opportunities.
  • Support and contribute to communications on the program, providing weekly status reports on the assigned projects.
  • Follow up with financial partners and utility management to get updates on progress.

    Qualifications

  • Working experience in the finance sector with commercial banks, micro finance institutions or development banks in capital market development or as an investment banker.
  • Sound understanding of the challenges associated with raising finance for infrastructure or smallholder agricultural projects in a developing-country context
  • A minimum of five years of experience with infrastructure or agricultural finance strengthening programs (water and sanitation experience preferred)
  • A Master’s degree in development economics, finance, business or a relevant social science, or in a water and sanitation related field
  • Knowledge and experience working on Kenyan water supply, sanitation and irrigation issues will be an added advantage
  • English language written and verbal fluency.

    Base of Operations

  • The position will be based in Nairobi but will involve travel to all the nine KIWASH focus counties of Kakamega, Busia, Siaya ,Kisumu, Nyamira , Migori , Kitui and Makueni

    DAI Global Grants Development Officer,Vacancies in Kenya

    Responsibilities:

  • Support Program Development Officers (PDOs) with the preparation of Yellow Lights (grant concept notes);
  • Track Yellow Light submissions and associated USAID feedback;
  • Work with the NIWETU PDOs and grantees to develop well-written, organized grant applications that are in line with NIWETU research and objectives;
  • Work across the program and grants teams to synthesize feedback, edit grant applications and quickly move applications through the NIWETU grants process;
  • Work with the NIWETU PDOs and grantees to develop organized, complete and thorough budgets that are harmonized with grant applications;

    Qualifications

  • Is an exceptionally clear, concise and logical technical writer;
  • Is supremely organized and can manage multiple inputs and forms of documentation;
  • Can work with local partners to simplify, clarify and condense complicated ideas into succinct arguments;
  • Is diligent, detail-oriented, enjoys managing paperwork and editing documents.
  • Is able to work well in a team environment;
  • Previous USAID grants experience is not required but preferred.

    DAI Global Program Development Officer Vacancies in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Lead all NIWETU strategy, programming, and relationships with Government and partners in the County.
  • Act as the Head of Office, and oversee the County Community Mobilization Officer’s activities.
  • Technically supervise the CMO in coordination with the program team.
  • Work closely with the program team to develop concepts under NIWETU’s tasks, including sub-grants to local organizations, and support to government.
  • Manage the implementation of County level activities through the activity cycle.
  • Ensure that all operational functions follow contractual terms and conditions, DAI policies and procedures, USAID and other relevant U.S. Government regulations.
  • Provide regular situational awareness, and updates on changes in context and opportunity, feeding
    into strategy shifts, and programming priorities.
  • Represent NIWETU in external meetings and forums such as coordination and partnership building meetings with Government representatives, civil society, and community representatives.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation team and partners in program monitoring, evaluation and learning.
  • Lead regular bi-weekly reporting from the County.

    Qualifications:

  • Excellent relationships and network with government, civil society and communities in the selected County.
  • Degree in Peace Building, Social Sciences or any other related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in similar roles.
  • Self-driven and able to deliver results with minimum supervision.
  • Highly developed analytical skills, including the ability to co design targeted activities to positively affect desired CVE outcomes with at-risk individuals and communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organization and coordination skills.

    Duties

  • Analysis of current global trends in leather and leather products investment and trade as well as drivers of change in global production networks
  • Identification of the product categories, buyers and manufacturers that Ethiopia should prioritize for manufacturing, investment and trade, and strategy to secure them
  • Analysis of export or import substitution potential of the industry to understand attractiveness of the market for potential investors.
  • Regulatory frame work analysis and benchmark other compatible countries to recommend any alterations in the regulations that Ethiopia should consider incorporating
  • Recommendations to increase backward and forward linkages between FDIs and domestic companies, especially SMEs
  • Recommendations to integrate environmental objectives and green jobs into the investment and trade strategy
  • Analysis of the already existing domestic sector and it’s capacity both in quality and quantity
  • Analysis of the current leather ecosystem in Ethiopia with Macro, Meso and Micro level actors, government and supporting institutions role with clear outline of ‘who does what’ and recommendation of additional institutional roles that will be critical for the success of the investment promotion
  • Identification and analysis of endowments and resultant opportunities for Ethiopia to exploit those changes to capture a greater share of global leather market
  • Analysis of the political economy, incentives and expectations in the leather sector
  • Recommendation on realistic export target until 2025 and rationale behind
  • Recommendations for upgrading the leather and leather goods value chain in Ethiopia to meet the set export targets
  • Recommendations of policy & a package of measures necessary to increase the competitiveness of the leather and leather goods export market

    Requirements

  • A minimum of seven to fifteen years of experience in the global leather value chain
  • Experience in working with global brands is required
  • Multi-country experience in working on manufacturing sector development; industrial parks experience is a plus
  • Experience in providing advisory services to government and non-government stakeholders
  • Responsible for supporting sector teams and management in designing strategies and interventions
  • Relationships with brand leather product and accessories suppliers/manufacturers
  • Understanding of the current and past international leather industry and investments worldwide
