  • Cuso International is international organization that works to reduce poverty and inequality through the efforts of highly skilled volunteers, collaborative partnerships and compassionate donors.

    Cuso International main areas of interventions are

  • harnessing the power of volunteerism to achieve the SDGs;

  • advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls;

  • improving access to and quality of economic opportunities for young people.

  • Funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and beginning in April 2020, Cuso International will begin implementing a 7-year volunteer cooperation program in 12 countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, including Honduras.

  • Reporting directly to the Country Representative, the Program Officer will handle the project’s administrative, logistical, liaising with program partners, as well as volunteer management and support with Cuso International requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Volunteer Administration and Support

  • Arrange accommodation and transport for volunteers, partners and Cuso International employees visiting the country office on official business, as required.

  • Ensure standards are maintained, due diligence processes carried out with regards to suitable and safe accommodation for international volunteers.

  • Provide support to international volunteers in terms of their health, welfare and personal situations as and when required and involve relevant staff to take appropriate action.

  • Provide agreed financial and logistical support to international volunteers in terms of household furniture / utensils purchase, supplies and in-country transportation / flight.

  • Manage and follow up volunteers’ accommodation contracts and responsible for preparing, managing, and updating all fixed assets provided in volunteer accommodations.

  • Serve as the focal point for volunteers and partners for all administrative and logistical queries and issues.

  • Liaise between volunteers and landlords to resolve any accommodation related maintenances / problems.

  • When required, manage the process of visa. request for international volunteers.

  • In collaboration with other staff, take appropriate action to ensure volunteers’ safety at all time and especially in times of civil unrest and/or natural disaster.

    Program Coordination and Administration Support:

  • Maintain relationships with partners, including regular communication to key partners about progress or delays in the execution of planned activities according to the established procedure and protocol.

  • In collaboration with partners, conduce placement assessment and prepare placement description for volunteers assignment

  • Provide support on the implementation of Cuso International’s communication strategy in coordination with headquarters Communications Team.

  • Support development of SHARE annual work plan and budget working closely with the Country Representative, partners and Finance Officer.

  • In coordination with the Country
    Representative, develop all internal and external reporting, including collecting necessary information from partners.

  • Maintain accurate volunteer records in Cusobase, including placement service dates, documenting concerns, etc.

  • Provide training and support to volunteers and partners on policies and procedures and ensure compliance.

  • Work closely with the Country Representative and Volunteer Delivery team to plan and develop relevant volunteer placement documentation that support the project strategic goals.

  • Provide support to Country Representative in organising meetings, partnership workshops, or volunteer’s placement assessments and crosscheck the relevant Cuso International standard documents.

  • Support the coordination of volunteer delivery, including reviewing work plans, organizing regular check-ins, managing relationships with partners, handling any volunteer or partner complaints and conducting investigations when necessary to be used in the organised events.

  • Provide logistic assistance in running workshops / trainings for participants when appropriate.

    Other Duties

  • Undertake specific additional responsibilities from time-to-time, as may be agreed upon with Line Manager.

  • Provide cover to other staff as needed.

  • Attend meetings and contribute to relevant discussions of program development.

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications

  • Degree in International Development, Social Work and/or Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five years of work experience in participating in the implementation of development projects or programs.

  • Knowledge of program and project management cycles, including experience with monitoring and evaluation systems.

  • Proficiency with Office Suite (Windows, Word, Power Point, Outlook) database and internet.

  • Efficient communication skills in Spanish (verbal and written) and English highly desirable.

  • Experience providing excellent customer service.

  • Excellent time management, planning and priority setting skills, and demonstrated initiative.

  • Effective, constructive and creative problem-solving abilities.

  • Professionalism, diplomacy and ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentially.

  • Flexibility to adapt to new situations with a positive and professional attitude towards working within the organization’s standards.

  • Practical problem-solving ability and perseverance in finding innovative solutions to challenging situations.

  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with people from a variety of cultural and national backgrounds.

    Circumstances

  • Ability to spend time away from base visiting volunteers, and work with partners and project beneficiaries.

  • Ability and willingness to work long / irregular hours when appropriate during project implementation.

    Desirable

  • Interest and/or knowledge of International development issues.

  • Experience of working in a non-governmental or not-for-profit organization.
