Brief on the Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN TRUST

The Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust is a non-profit organisation registered as a Trust Corporation. CRAWN Trust was established with the aim of impacting lives and transforming communities by promoting citizen’s awareness on their rights and responsibilities and working with them to towards eliminating gender-based discrimination in the social, political and economic spheres.

CRAWN Trust’s vision is a Kenya where citizens enjoy their full social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution and in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights while the organization’s mission is to foster a values-led leadership and Governance that upholds all democratic values and the full enjoyment of social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution.

CRAWN Trust’s theory of change (TOC) is based on sustainable development being achieved through values driven Governance and transformative leadership. When development is values driven and inclusive then communities thrive.

When the values of equity, justice and accountability, inclusivity and fairness lead the process of development, then women and girls, youth, PWDs and other marginalized groups thrive.

CRAWN Trust’s Mandate

CRAWN Trust strategic focus areas are five programmes which include Leadership and Governance, Socio-Economic Empowerment (also inclusive of climate action), Networking and Alliance Building, Institutional Competence and Sustainability and Information, Education and Communication.

Background and Purpose of the Consultancies

Two of CRAWN Trust’s core values are transparency and accountability and inclusivity and participation. CRAWN Trust thus facilitates participatory and inclusivity in its programs.

It is in this regard that CRAWN Trust seeks to engage Kenya Sign Language Interpreters in
the implementation of the key programmes and interventions conducted virtually and in person.

Objectives:

The sign language interpreter will be tasked with;

  • Provision of Kenya sign language interpretation services during virtual or physical meetings.

  • Liaison with a co-interpreter to ensure continuous and seamless interpretation of meeting proceedings

    The Consultancy Expected Outputs & Deliverables

  • Kenya Sign language interpretation of the content presented by keynote speakers and panel discussion speakers.

  • Facilitation of communication between the deaf and other participants and the event moderator.

    Consultancy Activity Schedule / Timeline

    The duration of the consultancy will be for 1-2 days or as shall be determined by CRAWN Trust

    Desired Expertise

    The applicant should possess the following desired knowledge and expertise.

  • Certification in Kenya sign language Interpretation.

  • At least 2 years demonstrable experience in Kenyan sign language interpretation during forums and trainings (experience in interpreting issues on gender development or community development and governance will be an added advantage)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Expression of interest (EOI)

    The consultant meeting the above requirements should submit an Expression of Interest- EOI (three pages maximum) which should include the following:

  • A capability statement, including commitment for availability for the entire assignment.

  • A financial proposal indicating the consultant’s fees in consideration of a modest budget available.

  • Samples of previous work(video links) embedded in the capability statement
