Brief on the Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust

The Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust is a non-profit organization registered as a Trust Corporation. CRAWN Trust was established with the aim of impacting lives and transforming communities by promoting citizen’s awareness on their rights and responsibilities and working with them towards eliminating gender-based discrimination in the social, political and economic spheres.

CRAWN Trust’s objective is to contribute to the building of a just and democratic society, founded on an informed and empowered citizenry who are drivers of transformative change.

CRAWN Trust’s vision is a Kenya where citizens enjoy their full social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution and in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights while the organization’s mission is to foster a values-led leadership and Governance that upholds all democratic values and the full enjoyment of social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution.

Stakeholder mapping

One of CRAWN Trust’s core values is collaboration. To this end, CRAWN Trust works in partnership with different state and non-state actors under the different projects through stakeholder consultative engagements, think tanks and committees and co-implementation of various interventions for one voice and consolidation of effort on the various rights issues.

CRAWN Trust also hosts a directory of women rights and feminist organizations, featuring stakeholders from across the country.

Background and Purpose of the Consultancy

To strengthen CRAWN Trust’s collaborative engagements and networking efforts, CRAWN Trust will conduct stakeholder mapping, especially women rights organizations- WROs mapping to identify key stakeholders working on various women and girls rights issues and human rights in general.

Suitable firms and individual consultants with experience on stakeholder mapping and analysis are hereby invited to submit their Expression of Interest for consideration for pre-qualification. They should be qualified and experienced to deliver the services highlighted in the section below.

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected consultants/firms will be expected to:

  • Participate in in-house meeting(s) with CRAWN Trust to
    discuss the assignment.

  • Development of an inception report detailing the approach, methodology and scope /focus of the mapping exercise

  • Conduct primary and secondary data collection (as relevant) through participatory approaches, detailing stakeholders’ thematic areas, geographical location, existing partnerships and networks and other key information as may be determined by CRAWN Trust

  • Develop a database of mapped stakeholders in the format determined by CRAWN Trust

  • Facilitate stakeholders mapping report and database validation and launch meetings.

  • Develop a first draft of the report and incorporate stakeholders feedback in the second and final drafts of the stakeholder mapping report.

    Deliverables

    The consultant(s)/firm will be expected to submit;

  • An inception report on the engagement in the stipulated timeline

  • Activity program(s) for the stakeholder engagement meetings as relevant

  • A first, second and final draft of the research report, abridged version of the report and policy brief

  • A stakeholders database in excel format or as shall be determined by CRAWN Trust

    Consultancy Activity Schedule / Timeline

    The duration of the engagements will be for seven to twenty working days inclusive of the days of the stakeholder engagement meetings (where applicable), depending on the assignment.

    Qualifications/ Requirements / Desired Expertise

    The applicant should possess the following desired knowledge and expertise.

  • An undergraduate degree in development studies, gender or relevant social sciences. A post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage.

  • At least 5 years’ demonstrable work experience in community development, women’s rights, research and networking

  • Good facilitation and report writing skills.

    Expression of interest (EOI)

    The consultant/firm meeting the above requirements should submit an Expression of Interest- EOI (three pages maximum) which should include the following:

  • A capability statement or cover letter, entailing your understanding of the assignment and experience.

  • An updated organization profile or Curriculum Vitae (with references) of the lead consultant(s)/firm who will undertake the work

  • An EOI entailing a budget proposal inclusive of 5% withholding tax, in consideration of modest budget available.

  • A Gantt chart outlining the tasks within the duration of the assignment

    Annexure Should Include:

  • Contact information of two organizations that have recently and preferably in the last three years contracted the consultant to carry out a similar assignment.

  • Samples of past related work conducted by the consultant(s)/firm.
