Brief on the Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust

The Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust is a non-profit organization registered as a Trust Corporation. CRAWN Trust was established with the aim of impacting lives and transforming communities by promoting citizen’s awareness on their rights and responsibilities and working with them towards eliminating gender-based discrimination in the social, political and economic spheres.

CRAWN Trust’s objective is to contribute to the building of a just and democratic society, founded on an informed and empowered citizenry who are drivers of transformative change.

CRAWN Trust’s vision is a Kenya where citizens enjoy their full social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution and in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights while the organization’s mission is to foster a values-led leadership and Governance that upholds all democratic values and the full enjoyment of social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution.

CRAWN Trust’s theory of change (TOC) is based on sustainable development being achieved through values driven Governance and transformative leadership. When development is values driven and inclusive then communities thrive. When the values of equity, justice and accountability, inclusivity and fairness lead the process of development, then women and girls, youth, PWDs and other marginalized groups thrive.

CRAWN Trust believes that a values driven leadership has an important role in creating a vibrant and engaged citizenry. An engaged citizenry will impact lives and transform communities to ensure equity, justice and accountability, fairness, and inclusivity for sustainable development.

CRAWN Trust’s Mandate

CRAWN Trust strategic focus areas are five programmes which include Leadership and Governance, Socio-Economic Empowerment, Networking and Alliance Building, Institutional Competence and Sustainability and Information, Education and Communication.

Women’s Economic Empowerment

The objective of the socio-economic empowerment program is to equip women, girls and other marginalized groups with information, skills and capacity to harness opportunities for the attainment of socio-economic rights and economic emancipation.

Interventions under this program include training and sensitization of women, girls and other marginalized groups on financial literacy, access to finance, affirmative action programs, socio-economic rights, provision of linkages between women, girls and other marginalized groups to supply chains and facilitation of platforms for engagement on policy and advocacy for socio economic rights attainment by women and marginalised groups among others.

Background and Purpose of the Consultancy

To optimize the implementation of the socio-economic empowerment program, CRAWN Trust seeks to have to create a pool of preferred service providers to provide facilitation services on an adhoc basis.

Suitable firms and individual experts on women’s economic empowerment are hereby invited to submit their Expression of Interest for consideration for pre-qualification. They
will be qualified and experienced to deliver the services highlighted in the section below;

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected consultant/firm will be expected to:

  • Facilitate through adult learning methodologies, virtual, physical and hybrid meetings on;

  • Policy advocacy on women’s economic empowerment- WEE

  • Budget processes and public participation

  • Gender responsive budgeting

  • Entrepreneurship and business skills

  • Consultative engagements between duty bearers and community

  • Development of memoranda, position papers and communique on various women’s economic empowerment- WEE issues where applicable

    Deliverables

    After provision of facilitation and or drafting of the documents highlighted above; the facilitator will be expected to submit;

  • An activity program providing for active engagement of participants including those with various disabilities, to be shared at least one day before the engagements

  • PowerPoint presentation and reading materials to guide the facilitation, to be shared at least one day before the engagements

  • Summary facilitator’s report on the forums or engagements with general observations and recommendations for action submitted within three days of the engagements

    Consultancy Activity Schedule / Timeline

    The duration of the consultancy will be for two to twenty working days inclusive of the days of the meetings or engagements, depending on the tasks.

    Qualifications/ Requirements / Desired Expertise

    The applicant should possess the following desired knowledge and expertise.

  • An undergraduate degree in development studies, economics, entrepreneurship or relevant social sciences. A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.

  • At least 5 years’ demonstrable work experience on women’s economic empowerment

  • Good facilitation and writing skills

    Expression of Interest (EOI)

    The consultant/firm meeting the above requirements should submit an Expression of Interest- EOI (three pages maximum) which should include the following:

  • A capability statement or cover letter, entailing your understanding of the assignment and experience.

  • An EOI entailing a budget proposal inclusive of 5% withholding tax, in consideration of modest budget available.

  • An updated organization profile or Curriculum Vitae of the lead consultant(s)/firm who will undertake the work

    Annexure Should Include:

  • Contact information of two organizations that have recently and preferably in the last three years contracted the consultant to carry out a similar assignment

  • Samples of past related work on women’s economic empowerment
