Brief on the Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust

The Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust is a non-profit organization registered as a Trust Corporation. CRAWN Trust was established with the aim of impacting lives and transforming communities by promoting citizen’s awareness on their rights and responsibilities and working with them towards eliminating gender-based discrimination in the social, political and economic spheres.

CRAWN Trust’s objective is to contribute to the building of a just and democratic society, founded on an informed and empowered citizenry who are drivers of transformative change.

CRAWN Trust’s vision is a Kenya where citizens enjoy their full social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution and in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights while the organization’s mission is to foster a values-led leadership and Governance that upholds all democratic values and the full enjoyment of social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution.

CRAWN Trust’s Mandate

CRAWN Trust strategic focus areas/programmes include Leadership and Governance, Socio-Economic Empowerment (also inclusive of climate action), Networking and Alliance Building, Institutional Competence and Sustainability and Information, Education and Communication.

Background and Purpose of the Events Moderation Consultancies

CRAWN Trust hosts various national conferences and forums on women’s and girls’ rights in terms of their access to leadership and decision making spaces and positions, their socio-economic advancement, climate action and other key rights issues.

CRAWN Trust also convenes the women’s movement in various networking fora. CRAWN Trust thus seeks to engage suitable event moderators in moderation of the various fora.

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected consultant(s)/firm(s) will be expected to:

  • Participate in an inception meeting with CRAWN Trust to discuss the assignment.

  • Participate in events planning committee meetings and event dry runs where applicable.

  • To perform events moderation/master of ceremony duties for the identified fora. They
    entail;

  • Compilation of speakers’/panelists’ bios ahead of the forum

  • Compilation of key questions for participants engagement in plenary, pre and post the fora and liaising with CRAWN Trust for uploading on relevant platforms

  • Officially opening the meeting

  • Administration of surveys before and after the fora

  • Provision of context/background on the forum and overview of the program with participants

  • Opening the various sessions, introducing speakers and panelists while ensuring timeliness of each session

  • Coordination of plenary sessions in participatory manner, while ensuring marginalised groups are not left behind. This can include engagement of participants in social media engagements around the topics among others

    Consultancy Activity Schedule / Timeline

    The duration of the consultancy will be for at least two days inclusive of the day(s) of the meetings or engagements or as shall be determined by CRAWN Trust.

    Qualifications/ Requirements / Desired Expertise

    The applicant should possess the following desired knowledge and expertise.

  • An undergraduate degree in journalism, communications or any other relevant degree in social sciences (postgraduate qualification is an added advantage)

  • Experience in programming, training or events coordination or planning

  • Experience in public speaking and event moderation

  • Proven and impactful track record in advancing human rights.

  • Good interpersonal skills

    Expression of interest (EOI)

    The consultant/firm meeting the above requirements should submit an Expression of Interest- EOI (three pages maximum) which should include the following:

  • A capability statement or cover letter, entailing your understanding of the assignment and experience.

  • An EOI entailing a budget proposal inclusive of 5% withholding tax, in consideration of modest budget available.

  • An updated organization profile or Curriculum Vitae of the lead consultant(s)/firm who will undertake the work

    Annexure Should Include:

  • Contact information of two organizations that have recently and preferably in the last three years contracted the consultant to carry out a similar assignment

  • Samples of past related work on women’s economic empowerment. This can include video footage
