Brief on the Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust

The Community Advocacy and Awareness Trust-CRAWN Trust is a non-profit organization registered as a Trust Corporation. CRAWN Trust was established with the aim of impacting lives and transforming communities by promoting citizen’s awareness on their rights and responsibilities and working with them towards eliminating gender-based discrimination in the social, political and economic spheres.

CRAWN Trust’s objective is to contribute to the building of a just and democratic society, founded on an informed and empowered citizenry who are drivers of transformative change.

CRAWN Trust’s vision is a Kenya where citizens enjoy their full social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution and in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights while the organization’s mission is to foster a values-led leadership and Governance that upholds all democratic values and the full enjoyment of social, economic, and political rights as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution.

CRAWN Trust’s theory of change (TOC) is based on sustainable development being achieved through values driven Governance and transformative leadership.

When development is values driven and inclusive then communities thrive. When the values of equity, justice and accountability, inclusivity and fairness lead the process of development, then women and girls, youth, PWDs and other marginalized groups thrive.

CRAWN Trust believes that a values driven leadership has an important role in creating a vibrant and engaged citizenry. An engaged citizenry will impact lives and transform communities to ensure equity, justice and accountability, fairness, and inclusivity for sustainable development.

CRAWN Trust’s mandate

CRAWN Trust strategic focus areas are five programmes which include Leadership and Governance, Socio-Economic Empowerment, Networking and Alliance Building, Institutional Competence and Sustainability and Information, Education and Communication.

Women’s Economic Empowerment

Climate Action falls under Socio-Economic Empowerment strategy. The objective of the socio-economic empowerment strategy is to equip women, girls and other marginalised groups with information, skills and capacity to harness opportunities for the attainment of socio-economic rights and economic emancipation, Under the socio-economic empowerment strategy we seek to reduce marginalized individuals and groups’ vulnerability to social injustice which includes addressing their exposure and the incidence of socio-economic injustices like climate injustices.

Under this strategy we strive to ensure the meaningful participation of women and other marginalised groups in key climate processes with an aim to influence climate change decisions at the local and national levels.

The goal is to ensure that gender and eco-friendly alternative climate solutions are considered in policy, practice and budget allocations in Kenya.
