County Government of Mombasa Laboratory Technician Jobs Openings


Main Purpose

Perform clinical laboratory activities according to MSF/MoH protocols, security and hygiene measures in order to obtain results to determine the patient’s treatment.

Responsibilities

  • According to medical prescription, prepare and perform clinical exams/tests with appropriate techniques and following MSF protocols and procedures. This function includes, among others:
  • Participates in taking blood, vaginal and urethral samples
  • Centrifuge blood and urine samples.
  • Perform laboratory exams (serology, haematology, biochemistry, bacteriology or parasitological, blood groups and cross matching, according to context of the mission).
  • Participates in blood collection activities through blood drives or as a satellite blood collection site
  • Ensure proper reporting and registration of the sample results in order to keep a written track of activity and give information to the relevant persons, ensuring confidentiality.
    Take care, manage and organize efficiently the laboratory material/equipment:
  • Apply hygiene and safety protocols, during daily cleaning /maintenance, sterilization, washing general glassware after procedures are complete – strict adherence to universal precautions.
  • Ensures proper sample waste disposal according to universal precautions and MSF protocols and highest safety standards

    MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Provide efficient lab services in collaboration with MoH counterparts
    Participate in CMEs and updates in changes in lab technologies
  • Reports faulty or broken equipment to supervisor or to biomedical technologist
  • Conducts routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
  • In collaboration with the Laboratory Supervisor reviews the technique and skill of all clinical staff in the facility to ensure that those participating in rapid or simple diagnostic tests (urine dip, malaria RDT, blood sugar and hemoglobin testing) are meeting standards
  • Assist the SGBV providers with the necessary containers, security and storage of forensic specimens – report immediately and breech in protocol to the supervisor, Medical Activity Manager or PMR

    Qualifications

  • Essential Laboratory Technician diploma /degree and relevant license
  • Minimum 1 year working experience essential.
  • English and Swahili
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

    County Government of Mombasa Clinical Officer (Pediatrics experience) Jobs Openings

    Main Purpose

    Organizing and ensuring medical consultations to the target population providing treatment to patients within the scope of his/her medical competencies and referring them when appropriate, according to MSF/MoH protocols, procedures and the universal hygiene standards in order to guarantee quality and efficiency of the service provided.

    Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the implementation and standardization of MSF clinical policies, tools, and hygiene protocols in order to minimize clinical risks and to guarantee the quality of patient care management. Promoting and maintaining confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records
  • Implementing diagnosis, prescription and prevention procedures that fall under the scope of his/her competencies applying medical
  • knowledge, asking appropriate questions to patients and following protocols in force as well as using laboratory services when necessary, in order to ensure a correct implementation of the medical treatments and to refer patients when appropriate.
  • Participating in the planning and supervision, in close coordination with other supervisors, the HR processes (sizing, staff shifts, recruitment, training, evaluation, development and communication) of the team in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required, improve people tri-age capabilities, their motivation and commitment and their active participation in teaching the targeted population on therapeutic and preventive protocols.
  • In cases of emergency, carrying out first aid care and treatment according to protocols in order to re-duce mortality rates
  • Recording in the individual patient’s card and registration books, all performed medical activities (drugs prescribed, lab results, vaccination status, epidemiological activity, doses, etc.) keeping data traceability in order to ensure patients treatment continuity.
  • Participating in data collection, analysis and reporting of activities
  • Knowing and implementing Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE), i.e. keeping contact with all patients, providing them
    information regarding their health state and responding to their questions.
  • Knowing and promoting the proper application of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit and Sexually Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol.

    MSF Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Ensure strict adherence of Universal Precautions
  • Information sharing with medical teams and activity managers
  • Participate care for care of child survivors of sexual violence
  • Conducts rounds on all NBU and Kangaroo mother care neonates
  • Follows up on neonates referred to CPGH for ICU care – shares information in weekly updates to MAM
  • Participates in training and updating of clinical staff of Helping Babies Breathe
  • Reports faulty or broken equipment to relevant supervisor or biomedical technician
  • Participates in rationale use of drugs reviews

    Qualifications

  • Diploma in clinical medicine and surgery or clinical medicine and community health from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate of registration from the clinical officers’ council
  • Desirable previous 2 years of relevant clinical working experience in pediatrics or newborn experience

    County Government of Mombasa Pharmacy Storekeeper (Supply Officer) Jobs Openings

    Main Purpose

    Execute the pharmacy/medical warehouse storing activities in order to keep pharmacy stock above security level and following recommended conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) under the supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisor, and in collaboration with the logistics team.

    Responsibilities

  • Supervise material orders and dispatching in order to ensure rational use.
  • Receive orders and deliveries, identifying potential disparities against cargo manifest or others and reporting them, and stores materials in accordance with the system in force, in order to ensure continuous availability. It includes:
  • Ensure correct filling in of entries on the stock cards and software, incl. medical devices and related items (collaborating with project biomedical service)
  • Prepare orders of the different consumption units (departments, wards, other), ensuring the packaging and proper dispatching. reporting any anomalies or changes in consumption patterns to the Pharmacy Supervisor. Inform Pharmacy
  • Supervisor as soon as stock reaches alert limit.
  • Ensures good storage conditions of all items in the pharmacy.
  • Control warehouse facilities in order to ensure materials good keeping conditions.
  • Monitor temperature in the warehouse/storeroom and ensure that products requiring cold chain are suitably stored and transports received and prepared appropriately according to MSF Supply and Cold Chain protocols
  • Ensure cleanliness of premises (stock pharmacy).
  • Maintain refrigerating equipment in close collaboration with the logistics department.
    Follows up stock levels with regards to alarms thresholds, stock out, expiry dates and drugs to expire in the following 6 months.

    MSF Context Specific Accountabilities

  • Report faulty or broken equipment to the project pharmacist
  • Assist with the delivery and accounting and storage of regular and emergency medical orders
    Strict adherence to universal precautions
  • Participate in rationale use of drugs audits when requested
  • Daily rounds in all departments to check for supply/stock disruptions
  • Ensure that all stock management and procurement is done and maintained within MSF protocols
  • Collaborate with the MoH equivalent position when directed by the Project Pharmacist

    Qualifications

  • Essential secondary school
  • medical related studies
  • Essential previous experience of at least 2 years in similar or relevant positions.
  • Previous experience in MSF
