County Government of Kirinyaga nesthesiologist Jobs in Kenya


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall healthcare service delivery in Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit at the County General & Teaching Hospital.

  • Administer anesthetic or sedation during medical procedures using local, intravenous, spinal or caudal methods.

  • Confer with other medical professionals to determine type and method of anesthetic or sedation.

  • Coordinate administration of anesthetics with surgeons during operations.

  • Decide when patients have recovered or stabilized enough for transfer or discharge.

  • Examine patients, obtain medical history and use diagnostic tests to determine risk during procedures.

  • Monitor patients before, during and after anesthesia, counteracting adverse reactions or complications.

  • Record type and amount of anesthesia and patient condition throughout procedure.

  • Conduct medical research to aid in disease control, investigate new medications and develop new techniques.

  • Coordinate and direct work of nurses, medical technicians and other healthcare providers.

  • Train students and staff on anesthesia administration, complications and emergency methods.

  • Manage anesthesiological services, coordinating with other medical activities and formulating procedures.

  • Position patients on operating tables for comfort and surgical accessibility.

  • Provide and maintain life support and airway management, preparing patients for emergency surgery.

  • Provide medical care and consultation, prescribe treatment and refer patients for surgery.

  • Instruct individuals and groups on health preservation and disease prevention.

  • Schedule and maintain use of surgical suite and anesthetic
    equipment.

  • Assist with management of day‑to‑day activities and prioritization of tasks.

  • Attend and participate in meetings.

  • Participate and assist in mass casualty exercises/events.

  • Perform any other lawful duties assigned.

    Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) degree from a recognized university.

  • Master’s degree in Anesthesia from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.

  • Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.

  • Valid practicing certificate from MPDB.

  • Demonstrated understanding of county government mandate, health policies and Vision 2030.

  • Proficiency in computer skills.

  • Commitment to values and principles outlined in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

  • Satisfy requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
