County Government of Kirinyaga Head of Manufacturing Jobs in Kenya; Reporting to the CEO KIDA, the Head of Manufacturing will play a vital role in overseeing the production process and ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to drive operational excellence within the manufacturing department. He will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective production of goods, while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and execute manufacturing strategies that align with the company’s overall goals and objectives

Oversee day-to-day operations of the manufacturing department, including production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation

Monitor production processes to ensure efficiency, productivity, and profitability targets are consistently met or exceeded

Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure manufactured products meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards

Work closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, procurement, logistics) to ensure seamless coordination throughout the manufacturing process

Identify areas for process improvement and implement strategies to optimize workflows, reduce costs, and increase efficiency

Manage and develop a high-performing manufacturing team, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management

Collaborate with sales, marketing, and finance to align manufacturing activities with forecasts, demand planning, and budgets

Ensure compliance with regulations, industry standards, and quality management systems (e.g., ISO certifications)

Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in manufacturing, leveraging new technologies to improve processes

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, Mechanical & Production Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field

Master’s degree in the relevant field will be an added advantage

Must be registered by

a Regulatory Body

A course in Management will be an added advantage

Minimum of eight (8) years’ relevant experience, with at least four (4) years in Senior Management/Leadership in manufacturing operations

Strong track record of managing large-scale manufacturing operations, preferably in complex and regulated industries

Experience in implementing lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives

Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality management systems (ISO certifications)

Demonstrated experience in managing and developing high-performing teams

Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software systems

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Professional certifications are a distinct advantage

Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010

Required Skills

Strong leadership and management abilities

Problem-solving and decision-making skills

Experience in manufacturing strategies and operational excellence

Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies

Proficiency in ERP, MES, and data analytics platforms

Understanding of quality management systems (ISO 9001)

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects

Knowledge of health and safety regulations in manufacturing

Adaptability to fast-paced environments and tight deadlines
