County Assembly of Laikipia Media Officer Jobs in Kenya


  • The ideal candidate will need to have an interest and understanding of County Assemblies, be
    hardworking, reliable and professional at all times, and have a creative, outgoing character with
    accomplished communication skills.

  • Overall, the Officer will assist with Communications, media relations, graphic design and digital media, and ensure brand consistency and accuracy in all publications, marketing materials and digital content.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the all media operation of the County Assembly of Laikipia, including access, accreditation, press liaison and compliance with Assembly protocols.

  • Manage press appearances, interviews and press conferences.

  • Establish and manage a communications calendar including.

  • Undertake media monitoring, flagging any potential issues before they become public and
    developing strategies to tackle them.

  • Undertake writing of web stories, press notices, programme articles, media briefings, social
    media messages and other written content.

  • Acting as point of contact for media enquiries and drafting quotes, statements and responses
    for sign off by senior staff.

  • Assist with drafting Assembly statements and communications for board approval, and
    being on call at all times to deal with fast-developing situations in the media spotlight.

  • Pro-actively explore opportunities for high-profile coverage in support of the Assembly’s
    key objectives, and present these ideas to senior managers on a regular basis.

  • Support in digital communication for mobilization of all public participation programs;

  • Work with the ICT department to develop and execute communications and sensitization
    materials, including: publication design, info graphics, data visualizations, social media
    tiles, web graphics and development, and eNewsletter design.

  • Support in maintaining and updating website and social media platforms, including updating
    graphics, preparing documents for web, properly placing content and general troubleshooting of content problems.

  • Design digital media campaigns and associated digital content aligned with the Assembly
    goals.

  • Use technical and typographic skills to arrange and style reports, marketing materials, web
    content and conference signage.

  • Carry design and web projects from concept to completion while
    adhering to strict brand
    standards and ensuring production timelines are met.

  • Monitor trends in graphic design, digital content, data visualization and web strategy.

  • Determine and monitor effective benchmarks to ensure success.

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly or any other periodical updates or reports as may be
    required;

  • Undertake any other tasks as required and commensurate with the level of this post.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations or related field;

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in communications and digital media; iii. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Illustrator, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and video editing software;

  • Experience with web design using Word Press and associated plugins;

  • Excellent writing skills — experience writing and editing op-eds, blogs, press releases,
    and editorial content for a brand, organization, or thought leader;

  • Experience with visual communication principles;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills especially in English and Swahili with
    local languages being an added advantage; and

  • Experience with government communication is an added advantage.

    Skills & Knowledge

    • Previous experience working in or around media is highly desirable

    • Good interpersonal skills

    • Ability to cope well under pressure well and be able to meet deadlines

    • Persuasive, resilient and able to handle criticism

    • Excellent organizational and project management skills;

    • Knowledge of, and experience with HTML and CSS;
