  • The Council of Legal Education herein referred as ‘Council’ is established by the Legal Education Act, No. 27 of 2012 Laws of Kenya. The core functions of the Council of Legal Education are to regulate legal education and training, license and supervise legal education providers; conduct the ATP Examination and to advice the Government on matters relating to legal education and training.

  • In order to deliver its mandate, Council wishes to competitively recruit full time high caliber officers to the following positions to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Overall purpose of the job:

  • The Senior Legal Officer shall support the Board in their duties and responsibilities on matters of governance; attend to all Council legal matters; monitor compliance obligations under
    relevant laws, and ensure the requirements of regulatory authorities are met.

    Key Responsibilities

    The functions of the Senior Legal Officer shall be:

  • Draw draft contracts, agreements and other legat documents;

  • Undertake research on different information concerning all applicable taws;

  • Identify legal and compliance risks and issties relative to the Council’s intended actions;

  • Read and verify documentation vis-a-vis historical information contained in individual case files;

  • Obtain information required on casé files and communicating to the external advocates under the instruction of the Corporation Secretary and Manager Legal Services:

  • Compile contract documentation for preparation and
    related documents for the Council;

  • Attend court hearings.

    Job and Persan Specifications

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must
    have a:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution;

  • Have Postgraduate Diploma in Law;

  • An advocate of the High Court Kenya in goad standing;

  • Have valid practicing certificate

  • Proficiency ia computer applications

  • Have attended a Supervisory Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized
    institution;

  • Have minimum experience of four (4) years relevant werk experience and

  • Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
