Cordaid Regional Director Jobs in Rwanda ; The Regional Director leads Cordaid’s Regional Core for the Horn, Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa (HECSA).
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the role provides strategic leadership across a diverse multi‑country portfolio, ensuring partner‑centered, locally relevant, and financially sustainable operations aligned with Cordaid’s mission and integrity standards.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Strategy & Leadership
Lead the HECSA regional strategy and align with global priorities.
Set regional priorities, guide portfolio and resource choices, and resolve cross‑functional bottlenecks.
Contribute to organization‑wide leadership through the Senior Leadership Team.
Partner Ecosystem & Locally Led Development
Set strategic direction for partnership practices and ecosystem development.
Ensure mutual accountability through clear expectations and transparent feedback.
Create enabling environments for equitable, context‑driven partnerships.
External Representation & Political Engagement
Represent Cordaid with governments, donors, networks, civil society, and private‑sector actors.
Use contextual, political, economic, and security analysis to inform positioning and decisions.
Portfolio Performance & Financial Resilience
Hold accountability for financial health and portfolio performance against KPIs.
Set priorities and make strategic trade‑offs across countries, partners, and investments.
Humanitarian Preparedness & Response
Provide strategic oversight of humanitarian portfolio, preparedness, and crisis response.
Ensure alignment with international humanitarian standards.
Risk, Safeguarding, Safety & Compliance
Identify and escalate regional risks in a timely manner.
Provide safety and security leadership, including duty of care for staff and partners.
Collaborate with Shared Services to uphold compliance, legal, procurement, and HR policies.
Quality, Evidence & Learning
Embed evidence, learning, partner feedback, and performance data into decision‑making.
Lead portfolio reviews and strategic priority setting.
People Leadership & Change Management
Lead and develop senior regional management team.
Shape an entrepreneurial, open, and accountable culture.
Drive implementation of new ways of working and embed clear decision‑making processes.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in International Development, Political Science, Public Administration, Humanitarian Studies, or related field.
Minimum 10 years’ senior leadership experience in Horn, Eastern, Central, or Southern Africa, or comparable fragile contexts.
Strong experience in regional leadership, partnerships, external representation, and portfolio oversight.
Demonstrated engagement with political, donor, government, civil society, and private‑sector actors.
Deep understanding of locally led development, humanitarian preparedness, risk management, safeguarding, and compliance.
Knowledge of Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), Sphere standards, Pledge for Change, and Grand Bargain commitments.
Proven ability to build partnerships, strengthen funding pipelines, and lead multi‑country teams through change.
Fluent in English; knowledge of French, Arabic, Portuguese, or regional languages is an asset.
