Cooperazione Internazionale Relief WASH Expert Jobs in Kenya

Duties and Responsibilities:


The WASH Expert will have the following tasks all in accordance with COOPI rules, procedures and standards:

  • Supervise construction of water and sanitation facilities
  • Quality control of WASH facilities development
  • Design of water and sanitation facilities.
  • Coordinate community training on operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure regular and timely project documentation and reporting according to COOPI’s and donor standards
  • Quality implementation of detailed construction/piping drawings and specifications in WASH design in conformance with all applicable Somalia government construction codes, and/or international norms
  • Support beneficiary institutions in development of operation and maintenance plan for WASH infrastructure.
  • Arrange for testing of any new water sources to ensure potability.
  • Work with the team to link water, sanitation and hygiene awareness. Specifically ensure sanitation facilities conform to Somali culture, and that facilities not only obey the same, but are user-friendly.
  • Prepare site visit reports, engineer’s instructions, any variation orders, and payment and completion certificates in a timely manner and obtain sign off from COOPI’s management.
  • Ensure all contractual works conform to design, and are tested before issuing of completion certificates.
  • Recommends changes on designs, material specifications and grant charts and obtains sign off from COOPI’s management.
  • Determine construction supply needs, identify gaps and initiate requests to Logistician/Procurement Officer for materials in agreed timeframes.
  • Ensures that labourers (skilled, unskilled, beneficiaries) observe minimum health and safety procedures to minimize risk of accidents/injuries.
  • Ensure development of detailed implementation plans, collection of appropriate baseline and monitoring data, including clear process and impact indicators, and effective project monitoring and evaluation procedures to ensure accountability,
  • Seek to continuously improve programs, initiate new project implementation strategies as needed, and plan for expansion of project impact, as appropriate.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate key staff for the WASH component – and oversee this process for less senior staff and ensure that personnel policies are followed.

    Required Skills
    and Experience


  • Minimum of MSc/Master’s in Civil Engineering, Water Supply and Sanitation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Management, Public Health or qualifications that demonstrate relevance to WASH project management;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in designing and implementing Water Sanitation & Hygiene System in private, development and/or humanitarian projects
  • Excellent knowledge of project cycle management;
  • A history of productive involvement with governmental health systems, processes and service delivery models in developing countries;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and background in community mobilization and engagement;
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, collaboration experience, creativity and willingness to innovate;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations
  • English compulsory (excellent command); Somali (not compulsory but preferable).
  • Windows domain, Compulsory expertise in Excel.
