    Job Description

    Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since then COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI Ethiopia started its operation in 1995 and its activities include water resources development, Food Security, Human and Veterinary Health, Education, Agriculture, Hygiene and Sanitation Promotion & Awareness and Capacity Building.

    COOPI based on the grant secured from Italian Development Agency is currently implementing a 15-months project titled Emergency initiative in response to the humanitarian emergency caused by the El Niño climate phenomenon AID 11212. The project will be implemented in Afar region: Zone 2, Afdera, Berhale and Megale woredas

    The project aims to contribute in improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable communities affected by extreme weather phenomena in the Afar region.

    To this extent, COOPI is currently looking to hire Agronomist.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision of the project manager, the agronomist will be responsible for:

  • Ensure the effective implementation of irrigation related activities of the project in the cluster
  • Support and provide guidance to Assistant Agronomist and Community Development facilitators to ensure and address the goal and objective of the program
  • Adhere the working modality of the organization and consortium members in the cluster
  • Facilitate and promote Agro pastoralist to engage in
    vegetables, fruits, and other high value crop productions
  • Conduct awareness and skills development training on agricultural facilities and promote techniques for high value crops and management
    Undertake the necessary Agricultural Surveys;
  • Develop training materials for agricultural transformation and learning
  • It is necessary to have a very strong knowledge, theoretical and practical in fish farming activity
  • Assist in preparation of new projects ideas, assessments, etc.
  • Other duties related to the position.

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications and Background:

  • Degree in agronomy

    Work Experience:

  • At least 4 years experience in similar position

    Skills:

  • Strong skills in technical knowledge;
  • Ability to work well within a team and take responsibility to deliver results;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, local language and Amharic;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and difficult physical conditions in an area of potential insecurity;
  • Knowledge of working area and the local language is an advantage;
  • Respect culture, believe of diverse ethnic communities;
