Co-operative Bank of Kenya AI Application Engineer Jobs
Job Summary
Design, develop and maintain AI-enabled applications, services and intelligent automation solutions that support customer-facing and internal banking operations.
Integrate machine learning, generative AI and intelligent workflow technologies into secure, scalable and production-ready business applications while ensuring compliance with responsible AI standards and banking regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test and maintain AI-powered application features and services.
Build solutions incorporating Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), conversational assistants, AI agents, intelligent document processing, recommendations and workflow automation.
Translate business, user and product requirements into maintainable technical solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
Integrate machine learning models and approved AI services into production business applications.
Develop application APIs, backend services, user interfaces and workflow integrations required for AI solutions.
Implement application-level AI governance controls and responsible AI safeguards.
Apply prompt engineering techniques to improve AI system effectiveness and user experience.
Implement guardrails, human-in-the-loop controls, fallback mechanisms, explainability features and audit trails where required.
Evaluate AI outputs for accuracy, safety, reliability and consistency.
Write clean, reusable, scalable and well-tested application code.
Participate in peer reviews and address defects, vulnerabilities, performance issues and technical debt.
Implement monitoring solutions for application availability, performance, usage, cost and business outcomes.
Analyze operational metrics and address reliability, latency and optimization concerns.
Collaborate with Product Owners, Data Scientists, Architects, Data Engineers, Integration Engineers, Security Teams and QA teams.
Support end-to-end delivery of AI-enabled products from discovery and development through deployment and business adoption.
Maintain technical documentation, deployment artefacts and support procedures.
Investigate and resolve production issues affecting AI application components.
Develop reusable AI libraries, engineering frameworks and application patterns for enterprise-wide adoption.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
Professional certification in Software Engineering, Cloud Development, DevSecOps, AI/ML Engineering or Generative AI is an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum five (5) years of experience in Software Engineering or Application Development.
Demonstrated experience delivering production-grade software systems and integrations.
Hands-on experience building AI-powered, machine learning or generative AI applications.
Experience integrating AI/ML services into operational business systems.
Experience developing APIs, microservices and enterprise application integrations.
Experience in banking, fintech, financial services or other regulated digital environments is an added advantage.
