Role

  • You will report to the logistics officer and will carry company goods& materials or customer’s goods & materials from one destination to another.

  • It will be your duty to ensure that the vehicles defects are reported and attended to on time to avoid further deterioration and or
    complications.

  • To plan the routes and schedule with the logistics officer and stick to the same.

    Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure vehicle is kept secure at all times.

  • Deliver goods & materials while operating a truck, sometimes over inter-town routes or
    different counties

  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative
    maintenance

  • Plan routes and meet delivery schedules

  • Document and log work/rest periods and kilometres spent driving and retain fuel/toll
    receipts

  • Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures

  • Manoeuvre trucks into loading or unloading positions

  • Collect and verify delivery instructions

  • Report defects, accidents or violations

  • Maintain the vehicle in a clean manner all the time by washing or taking to the car wash

  • Load and unload cargo.

  • Record amount and type of cargo being delivered.

  • Take orders for new delivers.

  • Drive short or long distances.

  • Fill up on fuel, clean truck, and wash windows.

    Education and Experience

  • Trucking school certificate

  • Valid truck driving license

  • Willing to submit to background/drug checks and provide employment recommendations

  • Proven work experience as a truck driver

  • Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, etc)

  • Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly

  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations

  • No recent moving or driving violations

  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions

  • Medially fit

  • Certificate of good conduct

    at hand.

  • An Ability to Work Independently: A truck driver often spends long stretches of time
    driving alone and therefore must be able to handle being alone and having sole responsibility for the truck and the goods it transports.

  • An Impeccable Driving Record: A truck driver must have an excellent driving record to
    provide the trucking company assurances of safety for all drivers, vehicles, and freight.
    Good drivers are also helps lower insurance costs and keep costs of vehicle operation
    down.

  • Customer Service Skills: A truck driver must have excellent customer service skills
    when dealing with clients.

  • Knowledge of Truck Mechanics: A truck driver should have basic knowledge of how a truck operates and be able to perform repairs as necessary, such as changing a tire.

  • Maintenance Skills: A truck driver should be able to perform maintenance tasks that
    help ensure the truck meets compliance and other safety standards.

  • Physical Stamina: A truck driver should have good physical stamina for the loading and
    unloading of freight as well as for the long drives a trip involves.

  • Stress Management Skills: A truck driver should be able to easily manage stress, as
    the occupation is one that can be highly stressful for drivers. They should understand the burden a truck driving career can extend to a family, as well as the physical taxation it
    involves.

  • Timeliness: A truck driver should ensure they consistently make all pick-ups and
    deliveries on-time.

  • Sober not an alcoholic addict

  • Good customer care

  • Trustworthy
