Join Conservation International (CI) in its mission to drive transformative change in conservation and climate action through the Exponential Roadmap for Natural Climate Solutions (the NCS Roadmap). The Roadmap lays out how we can and must achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from the land sector – from both natural and working lands - by 2030.

It comprises eight distinct "action tracks" focused on protection, climate-smart management of working lands, and ecosystem restoration. Together, these tracks hold the potential to mitigate 13.1 Gt of greenhouse gas emissions annually. However, one of the biggest bottlenecks to accelerating the uptake of NCS is the relative dearth of supply – sufficient high-quality projects that deliver for climate, nature and people.

Working within the Moore Center for Science’s (MCS) Social Science Team as the Conservation Scaling and Engagement Manger, you will work with a diverse interdisciplinary team on the scalability of NCS actions across various scales, socio-political contexts and regions. Your role involves rapid screening, detailed analysis, and actionable recommendations for scaling NCS actions based on cutting-edge theory and data from theories of scaling, economics, and the broader social sciences.

Additionally, you will support and/or lead collaboration and communication efforts with CI teams worldwide to support the delivery of NCS actions on-the-ground at the speed and scale necessary to accelerate progress towards a net zero emissions land sector by 2030. Responsibilities

Strategic Research Leadership in Scaling for Conservation - Lead the development and execution of scaling research and engagement strategies, ensuring their alignment with CI's goals and priorities, including the objectives of the Natural Climate Solutions Roadmap. This pivotal role involves coordinating and implementing practical approaches that drive the scaling of conservation innovations.

Knowledge Dissemination and Policy Engagement - Develop or co-develop research products, tools, and materials to inform decision-making and policy development in the field of scaling science, including opportunities for policy engagement events, working groups, and partnerships, both within and beyond CI.

Collaborative Research - Co-lead the planning and implementation of collaborative research programs, partnerships, and projects related to Conservation Scaling and Engagement, with a particular focus on the broader domain of Social Sciences.

Stakeholder Collaboration - Act as the primary representative for scaling research, and fostering collaboration and partnerships both internally and

externally. Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate the documentation, mapping, and interpretation of adoption patterns and trends in conservation innovations.

Team Management - Identify staffing needs, participate in the hiring process, and potentially supervise interns, research coordinators, and/or graduate research students. Provide guidance and support in key responsibilities to foster growth and excellence of people – our key asset.

Fundraising Support - Support fundraising efforts by identifying opportunities, crafting compelling proposals, and managing received funds effectively to advance scaling research initiatives.

Reporting Excellence - Responsible for both financial and programmatic reporting to donors, as well as other internal and external stakeholders. Maintain transparency and accountability in reporting mechanisms.

Other Duties - Other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to the success of the MCS Strategy and CI's mission.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, conservation biology, social sciences, or a related field.

4-6 years of work experience in scientific research and/or managing conservation or research projects or initiatives.

Up to 2 years of experience supervising others.

Proven ability in successfully interpreting and applying scientific information, data, models, and approaches to achieve practical results.

Proven track record in managing projects.

Demonstrated scientific writing experience, including scientific reports and/or publications.

Proven ability to work in a team environment and work well across cultures as well as within and across organizations.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Highly organized and strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated problem-solving skills.

Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.

Proficient in software systems, terminology, and procedures and skilled in using new software applications.

Preferred

Advanced degree/Ph.D. or related experience in a social science (economics, sociology, human geography, political science, etc.) or an interdisciplinary Ph.D. with substantial social science training.

Proficiency with both qualitative and quantitative approaches to social science.

Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., R, STATA, SPSS, SAS).

GIS and spatial analytic skills.

Social science field research experience, preferably in the global majority.

Strong multidisciplinary and trans-disciplinarity skills, including proficiency in articulating evidence-based policy recommendations.

Conservation Scaling experience and expertise.

Experience working with communities and stakeholder engagement.

Working knowledge of one or more additional languages commonly spoken in the tropics. Ability to speak language(s) other than English preferable.

Excellent English oral and written communication skills.

Experience developing tools (e.g., household surveys,), use of survey software, and delivering trainings, preferably in multicultural contexts.

Proven ability in mentoring peers in relation with the development of conceptual frameworks as well as data analysis methodologies.
