Concern Worldwide Programme Officer Livelihoods Jobs in Kenya


Job Purpose

To plan, implement, monitor, and report on livelihoods and resilience interventions in Tana River County. The role provides technical guidance in agricultural production, climate‑smart agriculture, VSLA, apiculture, and community resilience, ensuring interventions are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with Concern Worldwide’s quality standards and donor requirements.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Agricultural Production & Climate‑Smart Agriculture

  • Provide technical leadership in crop production, value chain development, value addition, and market linkages.

  • Promote adoption of improved practices, post‑harvest handling, agribusiness approaches, and sustainable market access.

    Capacity Building & Community Support

  • Train, mentor, and provide technical backstopping to lead farmers, VSLA facilitators, and apiculture champions.

  • Support establishment and monitoring of VSLAs, ensuring adherence to methodologies, governance, and financial literacy.

  • Provide technical support for apiculture enterprises (training, hive management, honey harvesting, value addition, and market linkages).

    Programme Implementation & Documentation

  • Implement livelihoods program activities in line with quarterly costed work plans.

  • Document case studies, success stories, and activity reports weekly and monthly.

    Stakeholder Engagement & Networking

  • Establish working relationships with Tana River County Government departments (Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Health, Water, Sanitation).

  • Network with partners to optimize programme delivery.

  • Represent Concern Worldwide at coordination and technical forums (citizen participation, crop/livestock production,
    NRM).

  • Foster linkages between communities, government departments, and private sector actors.

    Emergency Response & Safeguarding

  • Participate in Concern’s emergency response when required.

  • Comply with health, safety, and security guidelines.

  • Uphold Concern’s safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion values.

    Financial Oversight

  • Monitor monthly management accounts, track expenditure against budgets, and liaise with teams to address variances.

    Role Holder Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Social Sciences, or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in technical extension services for agricultural production (including irrigation).

  • Knowledge of Project Cycle Management and Climate‑Smart Agriculture.

  • Advantage: Knowledge of Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction, Natural Resource Management, Agro‑Pastoral Field Schools, Making Markets Work for the Poor, and Value Chain Development.

    Contract Details

  • Fixed Term – 5 months.

  • Base Salary: Kes 150,616 per month.

  • Housing Allowance: 15% of base.
