Job Title: Officer Health and Nutrition

Reports to: Manager, Health and Nutrition - Laisamis

Job Location: Laisamis - Marsabit (Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Kenya at the time of application - National Position)

Contract Details: Fixed Term , One(1) Year Contract, renewable subject to availability of funds.

Job Summary:

The Officer- Health and Nutrition will be responsible for implementing Health and Nutrition interventions in line with Nawiri project goals and objectives of reducing persistent high rates of acute malnutrition.

This will entail working closely with the sub county Ministry of Health teams to strengthen the system’s capacity to provide High Impact Nutrition Interventions (HINI) including provision Integrated Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), Nutrition Sensitive Activities and Strategies based on the approved Nawiri work plan.

He/she will also assist the Sub county government(s) to implement the county nutrition action plan.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Sub county MOH in implementing the High Impact Nutrition Interventions (HINI) in the respective Sub County(s).

  • Support implementation of integrated / community management of acute malnutrition (IMAM/CMAM) at facility and community levels within respective Sub-County

  • Provide technical assistance to Sub County in the implementation Baby Friendly Community Initiative(BFCI) and BHFI where and when applicable

  • Support facilities and community units with capacity building and technical assistance to implement a sustainable, Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) approaches for advocacy.

  • Support the county to conduct monthly nutrition commodity management and tracking for facilities and ensure that there are no stock outs.

  • Provide technical assistance to Sub County on quantification of nutrition commodities to ensure planning and effective utilization of nutrition commodities

  • Facilitate health worker capacity building mother support groups and caregivers of children on basic food safety and WASH

  • Implement and monitor progress of approved relevant nutrition sensitive activities contextualized to specific communities

  • Prepare progress reports for all activities based on indicators identified in the performance monitoring plan and Indicator performance tracking tools.

  • Facilitate beneficiary tracking and updating into the data management platform (Commcare abd I-form builder) in real time basis

  • Assist Sub County Coordination forum secretariat to organize, document and share key outcomes of these meetings

  • Work with Concern staff to provide input to work plans, budgets, and quarterly and annual reports

  • In consultation with the Manager, Health
    initiatives including facilitating trainings and joint facility supervision visits with sub county health management teams for quality monitoring, inventory management and nutrition service data transcription, reporting practices among others

  • Assist community units conduct demonstrations on food preparation at household level, strategies on diet diversity; also conduct health talks to mother and Nutrition, act as a technical resource for Sub County on issues in relation to nutrition and respond to requests for technical information and assistance
    on nutrition.

  • Represent Concern at key meetings at Sub County level, e.g., Sub County steering group, health stakeholders’ forum, any other forums on nutrition and health, as needed.

  • Provide technical support to the Sub County Health Management Teams on the joint planning and implementation of the health and nutrition project.

  • Assist the Health and Nutrition Manager to provide technical support to the SCHMT and other stakeholders in the implementation of the project at all levels.

  • Work with the Sub County Teams to implement the joint work plans as agreed.

  • Generate and provide reports on all health and nutrition activities conducted at the community level including completing

  • Work closely with MEAL team to support program quality including participating in periodic joint review meetings.

  • Adhere to and promote the standards outlined in the Concern Code of Conduct and associated policies to their team, beneficiaries, and be committed to providing a safe working environment

  • Participating and contributing towards Concern’s emergency response, as and when necessary

  • Take all possible measure to meet Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS)

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager

    Person Specification

    Minimum Education, Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • A Degree in Food Science and Nutrition, or other Health Sciences or related course.

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in implementing Health and Nutrition projects in a similar role.

  • Experience working in implementing Baby friendly Community Initiative (BFCI).

  • Strong written and oral communication, good computing and report writing skills.

  • Be able to work independently, as well as in a team.

  • Fluency in both spoken and written language in English and Kiswahili.

  • Computer literacy with good Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and Power Point skills.

    Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Ability to work in a systematic and organized manner and to tight deadlines

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
