Job Summary:

The Officer, Education will be responsible for the implementation of education programme activities in Marsabit County in close collaboration and support from the County Programme Manager, Marsabit and the Field Operations Coordinator.

S/he will in collaboration and partnership with the County and National level ministry of education offices in Marsabit, undertake roll out of education sector activities, regular reporting and quality control; and additionally work closely with the Field Operations Coordinator to undertake fundraising efforts for the education programme.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Programme management

  • Work closely with the County Programme Manager to develop the Marsabit Education sector Costed Work Plans and implementation plans

  • Take lead in the implementation of education sector activities in Marsabit County in line with the approved costed work plan and implementation plans

  • Represent Concern in the education sector forums in Marsabit County and where necessary at national level forums

  • Work closely with the education sector stakeholders in Marsabit County including but not limited to the department of education at County and Sub County levels, school heads and boards of management, communities within the target schools and other partners undertaking education programmes in Marsabit

    Monitoring, learning and evaluation

  • With support from the County Programme Manager, develop an education sector monitoring plan for Marsabit County and oversee its implementation

  • Spend at least 60% of time visiting project sites with field visit reports prepared at the end of every monitoring trip.

  • Participation in relevant monthly and quarterly review meetings.

    Others

  • Adhere to and promote the standards outlined in the Concern Code of Conduct and associated policies to their team, beneficiaries, and be committed to providing a safe working environment

  • Participating and contributing towards Concern’s emergency response, as and when necessary

  • Take all possible measures to meet Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS)

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager

    Person Specification:

    Minimum Education, Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • A Bachelor’s
    Degree in Education.

  • At least three (3) years’ experience implementing education program with a focus on improving literacy and numeracy skills as well as supporting girl’s education and STEM in schools.

  • Experience in Child Protection programming for most vulnerable children

  • Working knowledge in alternative education pathways e.g. catch up and TVET

  • Experience in application of Child to Child approach in Life Skills development

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams

  • Proficient in the use of computer and applications

  • Fluency in spoken and written language in English and Swahili

    Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Good understanding of cross cutting issues such as gender, HIV and AIDS, DRR, etc.

  • High integrity and demonstrated ability to follow standards and policies

  • Ability to work in a systematic and organized manner

  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

  • Energy to work long hours and be out in the field all day

  • Analytical Skills - critical thinking & Data analysis.

  • In-depth understanding of procedures with strong technical knowledge.

  • Be willing to accept responsibility and to show good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness

  • Trustworthy, self-driven, honest and reliable

  • Willing to challenge or question others constructively when appropriate

  • Ready to accept changes as new situations arise
