Concern Worldwide Country Director Jobs in Kenya; The Country Director has overall responsibility for the strategic development and management of Concern Kenya’s country programme. The role ensures programmes meet objectives set out in strategic and annual plans, align with Concern Worldwide policies, and adhere to Core Humanitarian Standards. The Country Director leads the Country Management Team (CMT) and represents Concern with government, donors, and international organisations.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership Develop and implement a coherent country programme aligned with Concern’s global strategy.
Provide leadership in planning and directing programmes and operations.
Build a strong national staff team adhering to Concern policies.
Create and maintain shared vision of programme aims and objectives.
Strengthen coordination, collaboration, and constructive communication across teams.
Representation & Networking
Represent Concern with govern.ment, donors, and humanitarian actors.
Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and registration requirements.
Maintain formal agreements with government authorities.
Promote humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
Programme Development & Management
Lead strategic development and implementation of programmes.
Coordinate technical inputs in programme design, monitoring, and evaluation.
Secure funding and manage donor negotiations.
Develop partnerships with local NGOs and CBOs.
Ensure programmes meet agreed plans, budgets, and compliance standards.
Maintain effective communication with Concern HQ and produce timely reports.
People Management
Line manage senior staff (CMT) and oversee national/international staff development.
Ensure clear structures and job descriptions.
Implement staff Performance and Development Review (PDR) system.
Develop and implement HR procedures in line with Concern policies and labour laws.
Establish participative forums and meetings for policy and operational issues.
Security Management
Take overall responsibility for staff and resource security.
Develop and implement Country Security Management Plan and SOPs.
Liaise with external bodies to monitor political and humanitarian developments.
Ensure effective security systems and incident reporting.
Budget & Financial Management
Oversee financial management,
budget preparation, and monitoring.
Ensure adherence to Concern’s financial guidelines.
Implement work and expenditure plans within approved budgets.
Submit high-quality internal and donor financial reports.
Policies & Procedures
Ensure support systems promote transparency and accountability.
Promote compliance with Concern’s Code of Conduct and Core Humanitarian Standard.
Ensure effective feedback, complaints, and response mechanisms.
Support internal and external reviews and audits.
Accountability
Promote compliance with CHS commitments and quality criteria.
Ensure staff understand accountability and safeguarding principles.
Ensure functional Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM).
Handle sensitive complaints with confidentiality and prioritise safety.
Other
Conduct continuous contextual analysis and adapt strategic frameworks.
Uphold Concern’s values, equality, diversity, and safeguarding ethos.
Actively participate in emergency response when required.
Role Holder Requirements
Advanced degree in Social Science, Development Management, Business Management, or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years’ overseas humanitarian management experience.
At least 3 years in senior management.
Strong leadership and change management skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
Strong coordination, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Experience managing major donor grants (ECHO, EU-INTPA, UN Agencies, Irish Aid).
Previous experience leading programmes in market systems, climate adaptation, NbS, or health/nutrition systems.
