Columbia Global Centers|Nairobi is part of Columbia University global network of 9 Centers. We have a presence in Europe, South-Asia, Africa and South-America.



Together we aim to create opportunities in research, scholarship and teaching around the world and to expand Columbia University’s mission of becoming a global institution.


Each Center serves as a regional hub for Columbia University in achieving these goals, by securing a global presence and in linking the continent to Columbia's scientific rigor, technological innovation and academic leadership.

The Center supports local collaborative efforts by faculty, students and alumni. Each Center operates under the platform of Research and Education.


It’s on this base that Center specific thematic areas are classified and that mirror their uniqueness based on our areas of operation.

,p>The Nairobi Center thematic areas are Business Empowerment, Creative and Liberal Arts, Health Initiatives, Education and Knowledge and Refugees and Immigration.

Ultimately our aim is to enhance understanding, address global challenges and participate in the advancing and exchange of knowledge.


Columbia Global Centers Nairobi is seeking a passionate, motivated, dedicated paid intern to support our Programs office with day to day activities for a renewable period of 6 months.


The person is expected to be proactive, organized, flexible and keen to detail. Good computer and writing skills will be of vital importance to this role.


A key component of this job involves public and partner engagement meaning a lot of interaction with different people, therefore the person will be required to have excellent people skills and social etiquette.

The person will learn how to work in a professional environment and have ample opportunity to network both internally – within the Global Centers

Network - and externally with Non-Governmental, Private and Public Institutions.


The person will also learn valuable lessons in logistics and events planning, partner engagement and relationship building skills.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assisting in researching and reaching out to partners in relation to specific projects
    Working on a variety of tasks as assigned by the Programs Officer
  • Keeping the mailing lists updated; both on excel and on mail chimp
  • Tracking and keeping programming data up to date as directed by the Programs Officer
  • Ensuring proper record keeping in keeping track of visitors to the Center as well as attendees to Center events and consequently updating records.
  • Assisting in updating pictures on the Center’s social media platforms


    The Intern should be:


  • Results oriented and possesses strong communication and social skills
  • Creative and flexible
  • Proactive and agile
  • Working towards a degree or has equivalent work experience
  • Have social media managing skills
  • Have great people skills
  • Willing to work after hours/weekends when required


    Qualifications:


  • A bachelor’s degree earned in the past 5 years
    Grade C+ and above in KCSE
