CIC Insurance Underwriting Manager Jobs in Kenya; Reporting to senior management, the role is responsible for managing the end‑to‑end underwriting of Group Life new business, renewals, policy alterations, and scheme administration. The holder ensures compliance with underwriting guidelines, drives portfolio profitability, and leads the underwriting team to deliver technical excellence and customer‑centric service.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage underwriting of Group Life new business, renewals, policy alterations, and scheme administration.

  • Review and approve underwriting decisions within delegated authority.

  • Drive timely renewal management, retention strategies, and portfolio profitability.

  • Monitor portfolio performance through claims experience, loss ratios, and premium adequacy.

  • Oversee quotation preparation, pricing support, and policy issuance within SLAs.

  • Lead implementation and enhancement of underwriting systems and automation initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and audit recommendations.

  • Manage facultative reinsurance referrals and treaty adherence.

  • Prepare and present underwriting performance reports and analytics.

  • Lead, coach, and develop the underwriting team for high performance.

  • Collaborate with Sales, Claims, Actuarial, Finance, Operations, ICT, and other stakeholders.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and customer experience.

  • Support product development, review, and implementation of underwriting guidelines.

  • Monitor service delivery, turnaround times, productivity, and quality standards.

  • Identify, assess, and manage operational and underwriting risks.


    Who We’re Looking For

    Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Business, Insurance, or Statistics.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in underwriting, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Technical competence in insurance.

  • Proficiency in MS Office tools.

  • Strong analytical skills.
