CIC Insurance Underwriting Assistant Jobs in Kenya;The Underwriting Assistant shall be responsible for analysing, assessing and underwriting Group Life risks presented to the Company through proposals, declarations, renewals and amendments, in accordance with the Company’s approved underwriting guidelines, pricing parameters, reinsurance arrangements and delegated authority limits.

Key Responsibilities

Assess new and renewal Group Life risks based on member data, benefits, occupation, claims experience and other risk factors.

Prepare and review quotations, applying approved rates, underwriting guidelines and delegated authority limits.

Determine appropriate underwriting terms, including rates, loadings, exclusions, benefit limits and special conditions.

Assess medical evidence for members exceeding the Free Cover Limit and communicate underwriting decisions.

Identify cases requiring reinsurance and coordinate placement or approval before accepting the risk.

Review renewal performance and recommend appropriate pricing and terms based on claims experience and portfolio exposure.

Review onboarding documents, KYC/AML requirements, premiums and member schedules before policy issuance.

Review policy documents, endorsements and scheme changes to ensure they reflect approved underwriting terms.

Provide technical guidance to clients, intermediaries, sales teams, Claims and other internal stakeholders.

Prepare and maintain renewal reports, including renewal status, premium at risk, outstanding requirements and schemes at risk of lapsation weekly without fail.

Prepare and monitor creditors/debtors’ reports, outstanding premium and schedule reports, and escalate ageing items for resolution.

Maintain medical underwriting compliance reports,

including members above the Free Cover Limit, outstanding medical requirements and pending decisions.

Prepare quotation, production, turnaround‑time and portfolio performance reports as required.

Maintain accurate underwriting records and escalate risks, exceptions and decisions outside delegated authority.

Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, reinsurance arrangements, regulatory requirements, data protection standards and internal controls.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

Degree in Actuarial Science, BCom Insurance, Statistics.

Progress in Diploma in Insurance.

Two (2) years’ relevant work experience in handling Group Life Schemes.

Basic knowledge of regulations by IRA.

Analytical skills.

Attention to detail.

Technology‑oriented with interest in emerging technologies like AI and ML.

Interpersonal skills.

Desirable Competencies:

Proficiency in MS Office suite applications.

Analytical skills.

Basic automation knowledge.

Communication and presentation skills.
