The CGIAR System Internal Audit Function (IAF) provides independent, risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight designed to add value and improve measures to manage System-wide risks within the CGIAR.

The Internal Audit for America and Europe (i.e., IFPRI, CIAT, CIP, Bioversity) in Africa is hosted by the CIAT Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Position Summary:

CIAT on behalf of the Internal Audit for America and Europe, is seeking to recruit a highly motivated individual to take up the position of Senior Internal Auditor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for examining and evaluating the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of the Organizations’ internal control systems and procedures, and recommending corrective actions to improve operations, enhance internal controls and reduce
costs where possible.

The Senior Internal Auditor will also be responsible for managing the activities of assigned audit projects to complete them in conformance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) audit standards, according to the timetables established in the audit terms of reference (ToRs).

Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Draw on the results of the preliminary survey, prepare and issue audit ToRs, which should address the objectives, scope, methodology, timing, and reporting plan for the audit assignment.
  • Ensure successful completion of assigned audit engagements (from start to finish) inclusive of pre-planning and wrap-up activities.
  • Prepare and finalize audit reports.
  • Depending on the assigned engagement, report and keep the Internal Audit Director updated.
  • Apply risk and control concepts to scenarios encountered, and identify any potential issues.
  • Extensive use of audit management tool (MK Insight) to document and complete information pertaining to audits such as audit planning, work programs, budgets, reports, and recommendations.
  • Follow-up on and evaluate the implementation of internal audit recommendations.
  • Communicate issues identified to the Internal Audit Director to ensure any potential concerns are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
  • Undertake travel as required by specific projects.
  • Perform other related duties falling within the scope of expertise, as required.
    The candidate shall have the following competencies, skills
    and experience:
  • Masters’ degree in finance/accounting.
  • Professional certification in audit/accounting/finance.
  • Knowledge of MK Insight or other audit management software is a big plus.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant work experience gained in a closely related field.
  • Good understanding of Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) audit standards, GAAP, and IFRS.
  • High level of computer skills, ability to audit complex financial and budgeting systems, and ability to learn new applications quickly.

    Terms of Employment:
  • The position is nationally recruited and based at the CIAT Africa Regional Offices in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • The contract will be for an initial period of two (2) years, subject to probation period of three (3) months, renewable depending on
    performance and availability of resources.
