Purpose of the Job

  • To provide nursing care to individuals as well as the community including immunization services, mental health services, integrated management of childhood illnesses, and management of common health problems by utilizing the nursing care process and PHC guidelines.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be punctual and dependable for assigned work assignments, shifts and duties

  • Attend scheduled unit CMEs as per the unit standard, unit hand-over meetings, staff meetings, government meetings/ workshops and other assigned meetings.

  • Act always in such a manner to promote and safeguard the interests and well-being of patients and clients

  • Perform all nursing duties in accordance with the UNMC Enrolled Comprehensive Nursing levels while adhering to all KMCL policies & procedures

  • Safely administer drugs following the KMCL policy on drug administration.

  • To ensure that aseptic procedure is adhered to in the preparation of sterile procedures

  • To receive patients, register admissions and discharges

  • Provide continuous nursing coverage on wards/unit, direct patient care, administering treatment as prescribed and monitoring vital signs.

  • Directly work with the medical/clinical officer to participate in doctors/clinical officers’ ward rounds, ensure that patient has been reviewed and new instructions promptly followed.

  • Deliver immunization services, mental health services, integrated management of childhood illnesses, and manage common health problems in the community.

  • Initiate and provide health education programs in schools and community to promote improved health and quality of life in the community.

  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including preparing patients for meals, participating in serving them and assistance in physical activity.

  • Prepare patients for, and assist with, examinations, treatments and procedures.

  • Ensure teamwork and complete assigned tasks and seek for help from your seniors to ensure delivery of quality care to clients.

  • Competently use medical equipment for procedures as such as suctioning, oxygen therapy, and patient monitoring.

  • Communicating effectively with the multidisciplinary team, patients/clients and their relatives and friends.

  • Role modeling
    excellence in nursing practice and maintaining the standards of practice within KMCL

  • Maintenance of a safe, comfortable, and acceptable environment for patients and staff and taking appropriate action to ensure this

  • To maintain personal contact with patients, report incidents/ accidents/ complaints to the in charge and manager.

  • Be familiar with the inventory processes on the unit, keep supply inventory, and check equipment as assigned.

  • Act in a supportive role to the Senior Staff nurse/in charge and to accept appropriate delegated responsibilities.

  • Wear appropriate & accepted uniform as per KMCL nurses uniform policy

  • Carryout PHC activities.

  • Be thorough and accurate in keeping all records of patient care, drug tracking and ensure their safe custody

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve the mission and vision of Church of God East Africa.

  • Any other duties that may from time to time be assigned.

    Qualification and Experience

  • Holder of a Certificate in Enrolled Nursing from a recognized School of Nursing in Uganda.

  • Must be enrolled with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council and hold a current practicing license.

  • At least one year working experience as Enrolled Nurse.
