About the Role

CBM is seeking an experienced Director, Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) to lead its newly refocused CBID Initiative.

In this senior leadership role, the successful candidate will shape the strategic direction of:

  • Inclusive Community Support and Care (ICSC)

  • Inclusive Education

  • Inclusive Livelihood

    The Director will strengthen CBM’s leadership in disability-inclusive development and increase impact for persons with disabilities through community-based approaches worldwide.

    Location

    This is a full-time position that will be filled locally within one of CBM’s established entities, including locations such as:

  • Bensheim, Germany

  • Cambridge, United Kingdom (or remote within the UK)

  • Nairobi, Kenya

  • Abuja, Nigeria

  • Lomé, Togo

  • Yaoundé, Cameroon

  • Lusaka, Zambia

  • Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

  • Guatemala City, Guatemala

  • Kampala, Uganda

  • Niamey, Niger

    Local contractual conditions of the respective country will apply. Expatriation is not intended.

    Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the CBID Division.

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a globally distributed team of CBID and technical advisors.

  • Manage divisional resources, budgets, people, and performance to achieve organizational objectives.

  • Position CBM and its CBID work within key global, regional, and national processes and alliances.

  • Develop and implement the global CBID strategy and implementation framework aligned with CBM’s overall strategy.

  • Monitor emerging sector trends and position CBM as a thought leader in community-based inclusive development.

  • Grow CBID as a core pillar of CBM’s organizational strategy.

  • Ensure CBM’s CBID work remains attractive to both individual and institutional donors.

    Technical Leadership & Quality

  • Develop and maintain technical standards, guidance, and tools for CBID programming across Inclusive Community Support and Care (ICSC),
    Inclusive Education, and Inclusive Livelihood.

  • Provide guidance to the ICSC team and advocacy team leadership.

  • Directly supervise advisors responsible for Inclusive Livelihood and Inclusive Education.

  • Establish clear concepts, methodologies, tools, and approaches across technical focus areas.

  • Provide strategic oversight of programme quality and effectiveness.

    Resource Mobilisation & Organisational Sustainability

  • Contribute to resource mobilization strategies and donor engagement initiatives.

  • Support the development of high-quality funding proposals.

    Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, International Development, Disability Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of international development experience at a managerial level.

  • Extensive expertise in disability-inclusive development and community-based approaches.

  • Proven ability to define and drive global strategies, translate vision into action, and align diverse stakeholders around shared objectives.

  • Demonstrated capability to lead, coach, and develop multicultural and geographically dispersed teams.

  • Professional proficiency in English is required.

  • German, French, and/or Spanish language skills are desirable.

  • Strong identification with Christian values and the mandate of CBM.
