    CASE-OVC Project

    Comprehensive Assistance, Support and Empowerment of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CASE‐ OVC) project is a USAID-funded $38.8 million 5-year award to a consortium led by Christian Aid.

    The project aims to improve the welfare and protection of 170,000 children affected by HIV/AIDS in 18 target counties in Central, Eastern and Part of Rift Valley leading to resilient and thriving orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).

    About the role

    This role will be responsible for strengthening the case management systems of Local Implementing Partners (LIPs) and county governments based on case management standardized approaches and tools for identification, assessment, case plan development, service provision or referral, monitoring and case closure.

    S/he will support effective project planning and implementation including Case Management, Child Protection and System Strengthening to ensure smooth graduation and transition to resilience for OVC.

    The role will provide technical assistance to LIPs to develop household case plans that focus on graduation and transition and to monitor their implementation as one way to track progress towards graduation. S/he will be responsible for providing technical guidance to strengthen referral networks amongst social service providers.

    The role will work closely with Project officer OVC, health service delivery, household economic strengthening and M&E to ensure that critical information collected within the case management process is used to inform CASE-OVC, LIPs and government’s advocacy and systems strengthening efforts

    About you

  • The role works within the Regional Project role family and positioned in Kenya Country Programme Team, based in Nakuru.
  • The role is key in leading and managing an advisory team in the region and a partner portfolio in the region ensuring quality and excellence in projects' design and delivery.
  • The role has the overall responsibility of project delivery and quality control, donor reporting and compliance, proposal development and convening regular programme review and reflection sessions and partners consortia.
  • The role will require to travel to the field.

    Role context

  • The role works within the International Programmes family and the wider Programme management remit.
  • The role is based in Meru, Machakos and Nakuru and is key in providing support to the Kenya Christian Aid to ensure quality and excellence in project and budget management that ensures case management at LIPs and county government is implemented as planned, within budget, timelines and deliver intended outputs and impact.
  • The role is responsible for the thematic area of Health and will be expected to provide thought leadership within Christian Aid's policy and strategic positions through evidence based publications and communication to stakeholders and using this communication for donor relations

  • External Relationships with LIPs and GoK to ensure delivery of projects managed.
  • Relationships with respective institutional donors on project progress and impact .
  • Internal The position is line managed by the Regional Project Co-ordinator.
  • The role links up strongly with the OVC Project Officer, Household Economic Strengthening officer, Health Service Delivery Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and Finance/grants Officer.
  • Role is key in ensuring good relations with other roles in communication and advocacy in Christian Aid in the UK and Ireland.

    Applied skills/knowledge and expertise

    Essential

  • Degree in a relevant development or equivalent with experience in project planning and community implementation of OVC and Child Protection programs
  • Demonstrated experience working in atleast 2 of the following areas: household economic strengthening, social protection, social service workforce, education and child protection
  • Experience working with government line ministries, private sector partners, civil society, donors, and local communities
  • Experience in implementing USAID funded projects
  • Familiarity with programme cycle management approaches and tools – including participatory planning, monitoring and evaluation with good understanding of financial controls and procedures
  • Direct experience of programme appraisal, monitoring and evaluation and of developing partners’ capacity
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral presentation skills to meet diverse requirements of LIPs and other stakeholders
  • Experience of facilitation, training and network building
