To support the finance officer by inputting financial data in an efficient, accurate and timely manner. To prepare financial documentation including cheques, petty cash reimbursement, petty cash advances and all staff floats.

To ensure efficient and accurate cash and bank books are maintained and monthly accounts and returns are produced in a timely manner. To ensure efficient, accurate and timely collation of finance information requested by senior colleagues. To extract reports from the financial and administration systems to review the status of the budget and the adherence to financial policies and procedures.


The role is based in Nairobi. The Finance Assistant will provide support to the Finance Officer and will support the Finance and Operations Manager, principally in managing the account cash book, providing cash payments for the project, checking payment batches, preparing the monthly local staff payroll and maintaining accounts records.

The Assistant will also play a co-ordination role between Nairobi and the regional offices. The successful candidate will need to balance competing demands from a diverse range of customers within Christian Aid.

He/she will need to be a self-starter with the ability to provide a quality service and deliver at pace. S/he should also be an effective communicator and demonstrate skills in working well with others.

  • External Maintains and builds relationships with Local Implementing Partners(LIPs) , USAID and other relevant external agencies
    Internal
  • The role is line managed by the Finance and Operations Manager in close liaison within the CASE- OVC teams and with various Christian Aid teams including the Kenya country office, Finance Division, Internal Audit, Communications Division, Programme Funding Division and Programme
  • Performance, and with Pathfinder International teams, Local implementing partners teams etc.

  • A Finance Aasistant will supports field operations by providing technical assistance and guidance on financial management. Prepare financial reports in donor format which are timely and accurate.

    Applied skills/knowledge and expertise

    Essential

  • Minimum undergraduate degree and /or professional qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Business Studies, Audiring or related fields
  • At least 2 years of experience in financial management (preferably a USAID funded project).
  • Prior experience in operations, procurement and grant management policy and practice.
  • Professional level of oral and written fluency in English language.
  • Prior experience managing USG activities preferably of similar scope with an excellent grasp of USAID financial policies and requirements.

    Desirable

  • Part qualified CPA accountant.
  • Experience of dealing with USAID institutional donor fund accounting.
  • Experience of using computerized financial reporting tools.
