Child Fund International Director - Project Jobs in Kenya; The Project Director will lead a proposed two‑year U.S. Government‑funded project designed to protect vulnerable children, expand access to high‑quality EdTech, strengthen digital safety and online protection, promote market‑relevant skills development, and strengthen government systems to prevent child labor and online exploitation. The role provides strategic and operational leadership, manages partnerships, supervises staff, ensures compliance and serves as the primary liaison with government, private‑sector, civil society and donor stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Project Management

  • Provide overall leadership and technical direction.

  • Oversee achievement of outcomes, milestones and performance targets.

  • Lead startup, work planning, implementation, adaptation and closeout.

  • Align project with national government and donor priorities.

  • Lead adaptive management using monitoring data and feedback.

    Donor & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as principal representative and coordinate with donor.

  • Build strong relationships with government ministries and offices.

  • Facilitate collaboration with private‑sector, training providers and community organizations.

  • Represent project in national, regional and international forums.

    Technical Oversight

  • Guide interventions to expand EdTech access, digital literacy and technology‑enabled learning.

  • Connect youth to apprenticeships, vocational training and employment pathways.

  • Strengthen online safety awareness, protocols and reporting systems.

  • Build government capacity to prevent exploitation and enforce child labor laws.

    Financial & Compliance Management

  • Oversee project budget and compliance with donor regulations.

  • Monitor expenditures, forecasts and financial performance.

  • Review and approve budgets, procurements and agreements.

  • Ensure timely submission of financial and programmatic reports.

    Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning

  • Provide oversight of MEAL systems.

  • Oversee collection
    and analysis of performance data.

  • Lead annual reviews, risk assessments and learning activities.

  • Promote evidence generation and data use for decision‑making.

    Team Leadership

  • Recruit, supervise, mentor and evaluate staff and consultants.

  • Foster inclusive and accountable team culture.

  • Ensure effective coordination across technical, operations, finance and M&E teams.

  • Support staff capacity strengthening and professional development.

    Safeguarding

  • Identify and mitigate operational, financial and programmatic risks.

  • Promote safeguarding practices and adhere to policy standards.

    Required Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, International Development or Public Policy; Master’s preferred.

  • 10+ years’ experience leading donor‑funded programs in education, youth or child protection.

  • 5+ years in senior leadership roles managing complex projects, preferably in Kenya.

  • Demonstrated experience with U.S. government‑funded projects; US DOL experience is a plus.

  • Experience with government capacity strengthening.

  • Experience advancing safeguarding, survivor‑centered approaches and accountability standards.

  • Experience with digital equity, safety and prevention of online exploitation preferred.
