CHAI Volunteer - Sustainable Health Financing Jobs in South Africa


Position Overview

  • CHAI is recruiting a national-level SHF Volunteer to assist in the review and data collection from national tenders relating to resources with the health benefit package, and administrative support to multi-disciplinary team (MDT) conducting a review of the benefits package.

  • The ideal candidate will be self-directed, have a systematic approach to work, have a high level of precision and attention to detail, be able to quickly familiarize themselves with Benefit Package development process, and be able to adapt to the possible shifts in the needs of the programme.

    Responsibilities

  • The Volunteer will be based in Pretoria, South Africa and will report to the Senior Technical Advisor of the SHF Team.

    They will:

  • Review national tenders and extract supplier and cost data for resources relating to the benefit package as currently defined on the SAHealthBenefits platform. This includes equipment, consumables, medicines, and laboratory services. (Excel template to be provided)

  • Support the Senior Technical Advisor in preparing documentation required for the multidisciplinary team reviewing the benefit package; track adjustments to the benefit package proposed by the MDT review. (Template for tracking to be provided)

  • Generate documentation to track progress of i) and ii) above; and ensure timely delivery as per workplan. (PowerPoint, Word and Excel templates to be provided)

  • Other responsibilities as needed

    Qualifications

  • Minimum of ongoing study
    for a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in health-related topic or Economics;

  • Strong analytical skills and technical proficiency with MS Excel and PowerPoint (analytical skills and proficiency levels will be tested during recruiting process).

    Advantages

  • Professional experience in a private or public sector setting, either health, economics or public sector finance;

  • Experience working in developing countries, particularly in South Africa/Sub-Saharan Africa;

  • Experience managing demanding work plans and tight budgets;

  • Ability to function well in a multi-disciplinary team (CHAI South Africa’s programs share common targets and indicators);

  • Demonstrated experience building and analyzing quantitative models to inform decision making, including experience developing or evaluating financial models;

  • Demonstrated ability to identify key trends from complex datasets and translate them into clear advice for decision makers;

  • Strategically minded, able to think creatively around long-term programme objectives and the detailed steps necessary to achieve these goals;

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, be effective in high-pressure situations and adapt to fast paced and changing environments with a strong commitment to excellence, both internally and externally, and with limited-structural support;

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects and solve challenging problems with limited structural or operational support;

  • Excellent organisational and problem solving skills;

  • Excellent verbal, visual and written communication skills;

  • English language fluency, both written and verbal.
