  • CHAI, through the Zambia Pediatric HIV program, is supporting the Government of Zambia (GRZ) in closing the treatment gap for infants and children through the age of 14 with funding from the ELMA Foundation.

  • The program supports the Ministry of Health to achieve the 90/90/90 goals for children (0-14) by 2020 through working in target priority facilities to institutionalize proven testing strategies, establish strong linkage to care systems and identifying effective strategies to improve pediatric retention and viral suppression.

  • To supplement efforts to address the key gaps in the Child and Adolescent HIV treatment cascade and catalyze more rapid progress towards the 90-90-90 targets, CHAI with funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through the U.S.

  • President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is implementing the “Faith-Based Action for Scaling up Testing and Treatment for the Epidemic Response” (FASTER) initiative.

  • Under the FASTER Initiative, CHAI is leveraging on the successes of the current pediatric HIV program, its close and longstanding relationship with the Zambia Ministry of Health and global expertise elsewhere to work closely with the Ministry and in-country implementing partners in addressing key gaps in the child and adolescent HIV treatment cascade and catalyze more rapid progress towards the 90-90-90 targets.

  • CHAI seeks a full-time Associate, Pediatric and Adolescent HIV Treatment to work with the Pediatric HIV team under the FASTER Initiative.

  • This position is based in Lusaka, Zambia and offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the government in developing and implementing ‘smart’ strategies for scale-up of pediatric HIV care and treatment services for Zambia to reach 90/90/90 goals for children by end of 2020.

  • The Associate, Pediatric and Adolescent HIV Treatment, FASTER Initiative will work under the direct supervision of the Pediatric HIV Program Manager to meet FASTER program deliverables.

    Responsibilities

  • Assist in the programmatic design of strategies to expand treatment optimization efforts for infants, children and adolescents

  • Work with the MoH
    Pediatric and eMTCT HIV subcommittee of the HIV Technical Working (TWGs), Child Health and Adolescent Health TWG, DSD national TASK Force and other stakeholders to expand rational uptake of optimal ARVs according to the latest HIV Consolidated

  • Treatment Guidelines to improve treatment outcomes in infants, children and adolescents

  • Support MoH and other implementing partners in identifying and addressing barriers to optimal treatment for infants, children and adolescents

  • Support HCW mentorship, quality assurance SOPs, and commodity monitoring in line with MoH guidelines

  • Support adoption and rollout of strategies and tools to effectively and routinely monitor and switching of infants, children and adolescents to optimal ARVs including any newly introduced regimens as per national guidelines

  • Support strengthening of ARV commodity forecasting and quantification and the overall supply chain management systems at all levels with special focus on service delivery points in FASTER Provinces and Districts

  • Support development of tools and analysis to track clinical outcomes related to HIV care and treatment to strategically identify children and adolescents in need of enhanced clinical monitoring, adherence and support

  • Support data analysis and use of proven strategies such as Service Quality Assessments, clinical audits in order to inform remedial measures including competency based clinical mentorships, HIV related mortality audits in infants and children and ongoing facility level quality improvement efforts

  • Support strategies to improve pharmacovigilance in FASTER sites while serving as coordinator/champion for PV conversations national wide through participation in TWGs and partner meetings

  • Effectively collaborate with other CHAI teams to ensure effectiveness and coordinated effort towards achieving program goals and deliverables

  • Contribute to the development and design of CHAI’s pediatric HIV and eMTCT strategy in Zambia and globally

  • Perform any other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

  • Degree in Pharmacy with minimum three (3) years’ experience or Diploma in Pharmacy with minimum five (5) years’ experience

  • Experience working in a clinical setting in HIV related program in the health sector is a must

  • Experience working in the private or public sector working with NGO (international or local ) in Zambia with focus on HIV/AIDS programs is desirable

  • Knowledge and/or Familiarity with GRZ public health sector systems such as HMIS and DHIS II is desirable

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to make linkages between interventions/programs
