Job Description

Organization for Child Development and Transformation (CHADET) is a charity which exists to inspire effective partnerships that ensure provision of quality services for children made vulnerable by street life and work, risky migration, early marriage, orphan hood, domestic work and HIV.

Every year, CHADET supports nearly 20,000 such children in its various projects that are being implemented in Addis Ababa, Oromiya and Amhara Regional States.

CHADET has rigorous child safeguarding policies and procedures which all staff are expected to follow as a condition of employment.

CHADET has been implementing a Girls’ Education Challenge Transition (GEC-T) project funded by DFID aimed at supporting 16,503 marginalized girls stay in school, learn and successfully transit in the different cycles of education.

This project is a four year project (2017-2021) to be implemented in 30 Kebeles in three Zones (South Gondar, South Wollo and Arsi) in Amhara and Oromiya Regional States. The organization is currently looking to hire a Project Manager to lead all the education, safeguarding, and gender activities of the GEC-T project.

The employee will abide by the general Organizational and Administrative guidelines of CHADET and the Ethiopian Labor Law.

Major Duties and responsibilities:

  • Managing and leading a team – to lead the GEC-T project team and build its reputation within CHADET in terms of project delivery. Clarify individual team members’ roles, following up their tasks and mentoring team members to perform excellently.
  • Managing and coordinating field level project offices – to coordinate the activities of field level project staffs and facilitate the smooth implementation of activity and financial plans as well as the timely transfer of budget and submission of reports to all concerned work units within CHADET.
  • Running the team at a strategic level – to have the overall view on the girls’ education challenge project ensuring that interdependencies are raised quickly and addressed from a technical and operational perspective;
  • Developing good internal communication lines - To develop effective
    internal communication lines for the project team ensuring relevant project information flows fluidly to and from beneficiaries to field offices, CHADET headquarters, ChildHope and the donor;
  • Finance management – have responsibility for the project budget, quarterly re-forecasting, monthly reporting and controlling under-spends;
  • Reporting project status – To ensure that the status of project is communicated effectively at the executive level both with CHADET and at global level with project partners ChildHope UK, Price Water house Coopers (PwC) the Fund Manager, and the
  • Department for International Development (DFID), the donor; ensuring good visibility of the project progress.
  • Quality assurance – To ensure planned project activities are delivered at the right level of technical quality so that targeted marginalised girls will achieve improved learning outcomes at school and are protected from further abuse.

    Job Requirements

    Education

  • MA/MSc or B.A in Education, specials Needs, development studies, economics, Management or related social science discipline.

    Experience

  • Minimum of 6 years for MA/MSc holders and 8 years for B.A with experience at the national or regional level in dealing with issues of education, safeguarding, and gender within educational systems, agencies or international systems.
  • Hands-on experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects and programs
  • Experience in training and mentoring
  • Evidence of leading implementation on new systems and positively influencing staff behavior/attitudinal change
  • Familiarity with the issues of girls’ education
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
