Certified Public Accountant Jobs in Uganda

  • Position: Accountant (Full-time)

  • Duty station: Yumbe, Republic of Uganda
  • Duration: From mid-September, 2018 to 31st March 2019 including one months of probationary period (possible for extension)
  • Project Title: Education Assistance for South Sudanese in Refugee Settlements, Northern Uganda
  • Salary range (Gross): 2,960,000- 3,910,000 K1 a2 (depending on the experience and skill of a candidate)


    Control petty cash in office, accounting journal entry, check and organize accounting documents, monthly tax calculation and return, fulfil all the demands pertaining to accounting and finance process


    AAR Japan was founded in 1979 with a mission to help refugees from Indochina, and as a civil organization without any political, religious, or ideological affiliations.


    It has since then grown into an international NGO approved and registered by the United Nations.


    AAR Japan has five main pillars of activities;


  • emergency assistance,
  • assistance to persons with disabilities,
  • landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) action,
  • action against infectious diseases and
  • public awareness raising about global issues in Japan.


    Since the beginning, AAR Japan has operated in over 60 countries. Currently, we are active in 15 countries and areas, including 4 African countries namely Kenya, Zambia, Sudan and Uganda.


    Responsibilities

    The scope of work for Accountant


  • Control petty cash in office
  • Accounting Journal Entry to AAR’s financial system on a daily basis
  • Fill in, check and organize accounting documents (bills, cash slips, invoices, financial supporting documents, receipts)
  • Assist in supervising and giving advice as necessary to other staff to ensure their compliance with the required financial procedure
  • Assist in preparing internal monthly financial reports and financial reports for donors
  • Assist in preparing project audits and annual audits
  • File monthly tax return
  • Fulfil all the demands pertaining to accounting and finance process
  • Update and manage staff payroll
  • Providing advice on compiling organization accounting manuals
  • Perform any other duties
    if requested by supervisors
  • Personnel specification and selection criteria


    Experience required:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field
  • More than 4 years of experience as an accountant
  • Experience in data entry with Microsoft Excel and accounting software
  • Experience in working with aid organizations


    Qualifications required:


  • Ugandan citizen, residing in Uganda and able to station in Yumbe
  • Relevant professional qualifications (CPA/CA/ACCA)a3
  • Excellent PC literacy including word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel) and accounting software system
  • Strong motivation to be part of an aid organization
  • Excellent at working as a part of the team, especially reporting to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Solid drafting/reporting skills
  • Fluency in speaking and writing English
  • Strong co-ordination and negotiation skills with stakeholders and problem solving skills
  • Culturally sensitive and high level of diplomacy and tact
  • Respected punctuality
