Job Description

Background

The Centre for Innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT-Africa) is a World Bank supported center of excellence for education and research at Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences, Ethiopia.

It was established to lead a high quality regional capacity for discovery and development of medicines (drugs, vaccines, diagnostics and complex interventions) and bring about fair and sustainable development in Africa.

CDT-Africa, in partnership with its national and international collaborators, is in the process of establishing an African Biomedical Incubation Hub to assist in drug, vaccine, and diagnostic developments.

As part of this initiative, CDT-Africa will be able to offer full-time PhD and postdoctoral fellowships.

Job Requirements

Qualification:

PhD degree in the area of Medicinal Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. PhD graduates in pharmacology with relevant primary research may also apply

Less than 5

years since obtaining PhD;
Publications relevant to discovery or development of drugs; First-authorship is prioritized.

International experience preferred;
Highly motivated and creative;

Be able to demonstrate managing scientific projects independently and efficiently

Prior research experience in Drug discovery is desirable

Number of position: one

Area of work: Drug development

Place of work:

CDT-Africa Regional Biomedical Incubation Hub, College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University.

The student is to be supported through a fund generously provided by the Brighton and Sussex Medical School. While the area of work will be on drug discovery for scabies, the work is not limited to this.

Employment term:

2 years
