CDL Human Resource Workshop Manager – Fleet Maintenance (Trucks & Vehicles) Jobs in Kenya; The Workshop Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all workshop operations related to preventive and corrective maintenance of the company’s fleet of trucks, heavy commercial vehicles, light vehicles, trailers, and related equipment. The role ensures maximum vehicle availability, compliance with safety and regulatory standards, cost‑effective maintenance practices, and efficient management of workshop personnel and resources.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Operations

  • Manage day‑to‑day workshop operations to ensure timely servicing, repairs, and maintenance.

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Prioritize repair jobs based on operational requirements.

  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.

  • Monitor fuel dispatch.

    Fleet Maintenance

  • Oversee maintenance of heavy‑duty trucks, tankers, trailers, light commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, generators, and auxiliary equipment.

  • Diagnose recurring mechanical issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Monitor vehicle performance and maintenance history.

    Team Management

  • Supervise mechanics, auto electricians, welders, technicians, and support staff.

  • Allocate work effectively and conduct performance evaluations.

  • Provide coaching, technical guidance, and identify training needs.

  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

    Inventory & Spare Parts Management

  • Manage inventory of spare parts, lubricants, tyres, and tools.

  • Maintain optimum stock levels while controlling costs.

  • Coordinate procurement of genuine spare parts.

  • Monitor supplier performance and recommend approved vendors.

    Budget & Cost Control

  • Prepare and manage workshop maintenance budget.

  • Monitor repair costs and identify cost‑reduction opportunities.

  • Analyse expenditure and recommend efficiency improvements.

  • Control overtime, fuel usage, and consumables.

    Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop.

  • Enforce PPE usage and investigate accidents.

  • Ensure compliance with Kenyan transport, environmental, and workplace safety regulations.

    Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records for every
    vehicle.

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly workshop performance reports.

  • Monitor downtime, fleet availability, maintenance costs, fuel efficiency, and breakdown frequency.

    Quality Assurance

  • Ensure repairs meet manufacturer specifications and company standards.

  • Conduct final inspections before releasing vehicles.

  • Monitor workmanship and ensure satisfaction of internal departments.

  • Ensure vehicle cleanliness.

    Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Coordinate with external garages and service providers.

  • Evaluate contractor performance and negotiate service contracts.

    Continuous Improvement

  • Implement best practices in fleet maintenance.

  • Recommend process and equipment improvements.

  • Drive initiatives to improve fleet reliability and efficiency.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.

  • Professional certifications in automotive or heavy vehicle maintenance an added advantage.

    Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years in fleet or heavy vehicle maintenance.

  • At least 7+ years in a supervisory or managerial workshop role.

  • Experience managing heavy commercial trucks, trailers, and mixed fleets.

  • Experience in construction, logistics, transport, manufacturing, or industrial sectors preferred.
