Who we Are:

CBM Kenya is a registered company Limited by Guarantee, to carry out charitable work and is registered in line with the Company’s act Chapter 486 of the laws of Kenya. The registration number is 68/76 and the physical address is 11 Ring Road, Parklands Nairobi.

The vision for CBM Kenya is “an inclusive world in which all people with disabilities enjoy their human rights and achieve their full potential”, and our mission is “fighting to end the cycle of poverty and disability”.

The vision and mission are similar with CBM Global because CBM Kenya is a member of the CBM Global federation.

Currently the Federation is made up of six Member Associations including CBM Australia, CBM Ireland, CBM New Zealand, CBM Switzerland, CBM UK, and CBM Kenya.

The Role:

Reports to: The Executive Director CBM Kenya

Full time position based in Nairobi

Overall Goal

To mobilize sufficient resources to support CBM Kenya’s Strategic Plan, during the period of January 2023 to December 2025.

Strategic Objective 1

  • To raise funds from institutional donors (embassies, UN agencies, and global funds baskets, bilateral, multilateral, and statutory donors both locally and internationally (50% of total fundraising target)

  • To achieve this objective, the fundraiser will focus on:

  • Reviewing the donor scoping database

  • The database includes all relevant donors who regularly release funding opportunities that fit CBM Kenya’s work and when they do so. Through this mechanism, it will be easier to track and keep in our radar key timelines when these opportunities are released enabling us to respond in a timely way.

    Traditional proposal writing

  • Targeting a wide variety of donor groups (embassies, UN agencies, bilateral and multilateral funders, basket funds etc).

  • The fundraiser will seek to increase income from donors by offering innovative projects, research products and services as donors increasingly look to test innovative solutions and research to social problems with potential for large-scale adoption.

  • Global Challenge Funds will also be targeted as a potential source of income for innovative pilot programmes. The fundraiser will acquire donor intelligence on upcoming calls for proposals that fit our strategic priorities and will capitalize on them.

    Create database of innovative concepts

  • Aligned to CBM Kenya’s core strategic areas. Such well-in-advance concepts and ideas will not only heighten our motivation to actively look out for funding opportunities but also reduce the time length in which to respond to such opportunities.

  • Development of a bid-no-bid form that will guide identification and selection of relevant calls for application aligned to CBM Kenya’s strategic objectives. This will ensure that CBM Kenya invests its time and resources in funding applications that will potentially generate high returns on investment.

    Attend donor round tables

  • These are forums where different donors come together to set the agenda of what they would like to fund e.g. The Education Development Partners Coordination Group (EDPCG).

  • Through such forums, CBM Kenya will seek to influence donor policies and programs so that they provide sufficient resources for research, educational work, and other strategic priority areas

  • Strategic relationship building with potential donors through meetings, inviting them to CBM Kenya’s events and regular communication.

  • CBM Kenya leadership team led by the Country Director will invest significant time into developing relationships with donors.

  • Experience has shown that over 80% of funding application made are likely to be funded when there is an existing relationship with a donor.

  • Consortium building with potential partners whose work is aligned to CBM Kenya.

  • The fundraiser will invest in developing long term strategic
    relationships with other NGOs/CSOs that are closely aligned to CBM Kenya’s work.

  • This will also include investing time in developing relationships with Donor Partner Groups and their individual members to establish mutually beneficial consortia through which to apply for large scale competitive funding calls including basket funds.

    Strategic objective 2: To resource mobilize from trusts and foundations. (30% of total fundraising target)

    To achieve this objective the fundraiser will

  • Create a database of trust and foundations whose thematic focus align with CBM Kenya’s work. This database will be included in the donor scoping tool/document.

  • Plan to provide timely responds to calls for proposals from identified trusts and foundations led by the fundraising manager with support from other staff.

  • Train board members and staff (CBM Kenya & CBM Global) on how to engage in fundraising from trusts and foundations. One of the main entry points for raising money from trust and foundations is usually person-to-person relationships.

  • Invest time in creating relationships with trusts and foundations through one-on-one meetings (both online and physical).

    Strategic Objective 3: To establish funding relationships and partnerships with corporates aiming to raise both financial and in-kind resources - (10% of total fundraising target).

    To achieve this objective the fundraiser will

  • Research and identify corporates whose funding themes aligns with CBM Kenya’s work and develop a corporate database.

  • Cultivate interest of corporates in our work and aim to establish long-term funding partnerships. He/she will start with corporates that are CBM Kenya’s business partners e.g., staff pension managers and suppliers.

  • Invite identified corporates to attend CBM Kenya’s events, project activities or visit our beneficiaries as a way of interesting them to connect to our work.

  • Stewardship – Continuous communication with corporate through social media, sharing reports and impact stories.

    Strategic Objective 4: To strengthen CBM Kenya’s fundraising function through improved communication, fundraising network engagement, continuous learning, and staff skills enhancement**

    To improve the fundraising function of CBM Kenya, the fundraiser will:

  • Develop CBM Kenya marketing tools such as organizational profile, videos, branded folders, pamphlets, fliers, and newsletters and use them to promote CBM Kenya’s work.

  • Enhance our communication through CBM Kenya social media platforms and regularly update our stakeholders and donors about our work, programs, and plans.

  • Revamp CBM Kenya’s website to ensure it is attractive and has latest information about our work, programs, and achievements.

  • Supervision of communication Intern who will support our communication and public relation work.

  • Subscribe online platforms that provide alerts on new funding opportunities aligned to CBM Kenya’s work such as Funds for NGO.

  • Explore possibilities of joining professional fundraising networks e.g., East Africa Philanthropy Network (EAPN) and Kenya Association of Professional Fundraisers (KAPF).

  • Provide regular training to staff to have a better understanding of fundraising and their roles.

    Requirements:

  • Over 6 years demonstrated experience of fundraising from institutional donors, trusts, foundations, and corporates.

  • Relevant academic qualifications with excellent writing skills.

  • Ability to work well in a diverse team environment as well as independently.

  • Ability to multi-task under tight deadlines.
