The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) is a chartered private international
university which enjoys a heritage of 35 solid years of offering quality education

Our mission is to promote excellence in research, teaching
and community service by preparing morally upright leaders based on the intellectual
tradition of the Catholic Church. CUEA has six Faculties: Theology, Education, Law, Arts
and Social Sciences, Business and Science.

Two institutes: Canon Law and Regional
Integration and Development and the Centre for Social Justice and Ethics.
We wish to recruit dynamic, qualified and result-oriented persons to fill the following
positions:

2. Director of Research, Innovation and Partnerships (1) - ACRIP/CUEA/01

Reporting: Reports to DVC Academics Aairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintain overall knowledge of the University’s top research prospects to assist
fundraisers in developing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
strategies for research.
2. Evaluate research tools and emerging technology, and formulate research proposals
to attract substantive funding from development partners and other agencies.
3. Identify and promote professional growth opportunities in research, innovation and
incubation for University staff, and ensure adherence to professional standards and
ethics.
4. Develop policies and procedures for the Directorate and oversee budgets.
5. Recognize and support the University’s areas of research strength and promote
high-impact collaboration with other leading universities worldwide.
6. Develop plans to improve research quality and impact, and promote team research
and research groups, besides individual projects.
7. Encourage organization of national and international research conferences, and
develop outreach activities aimed at enhancing research and innovation culture in the
University.
8. Integrate various research activities into the core research endeavours of the
University, and identify and focus on potential income-generating research and
consultancies.
9. Formulate mechanisms and incentives to support inter and multi-discipline research
and consolidate pathways to disseminate research findings.
10. Formulate policies that ensure that innovative and creative ideas are encouraged and
tapped, and identifying potential funding
sources for Innovation & Incubation and
expansion opportunities.
11. Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic
Affairs.

Working Relationships

Work closely with:
  • DVC Academics Aairs.
  • Deans, ICT Manager and Head of Advancement, Estates and Infrastructure.
  • Development partners, donors and Research agencies.

    Key Performance Measures

  • Collaborative research across the academic community and with industry and
    Government.
  • Proposal written
  • Grants attracted.
  • Quality & quantity of research publications.
  • Impact of research on a range of end users.
  • Volume, quality and impact of the University's research activity.
  • Development and implementation of the research strategy for the University.
  • Innovative and creative products and services across the departments and amongst
    students.
  • Graduate training

    Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent academic doctoral degree.
  • At least an Associate Professor.
  • Evidence of participation in community service.
  • Strong research involvement, including an understanding of experimental and analytical
    research.
  • Evidence of funds raised

    Values and Competencies

  • High level of integrity, professionalism and discretion when handling condential
    information.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, writing, research, communication and interpersonal
    skills.
  • Outstanding managerial and administrative capability, with proven leadership skills.
  • Ability to develop high level networks and partnerships.
  • Creative and innovative leader with high sense of initiative and ability to identify and tap
    other peoples’ innovations and creativity.
  • Ability to guide, counsel and mentor students.
  • Good understanding of legal framework, policies and regulations governing university
    education in Kenya;
  • Be customer oriented with a clear understanding of the University’s customers needs,
    preferences and interests.
  • Proficiency in Computer Packages like statistical data analysis packages.
  • Effective business management and fundraising skills.
