The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) is a chartered private international
university which enjoys a heritage of 35 solid years of offering quality education

Our mission is to promote excellence in research, teaching
and community service by preparing morally upright leaders based on the intellectual
tradition of the Catholic Church. CUEA has six Faculties: Theology, Education, Law, Arts
and Social Sciences, Business and Science.

Two institutes: Canon Law and Regional
Integration and Development and the Centre for Social Justice and Ethics.
We wish to recruit dynamic, qualified and result-oriented persons to fill the following
positions:

1. Director Institute For Regional Integration and Development (1)- Acirid/cuea/01

Reporting: Reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor/Academic Aairs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Offer academic leadership to the Institute and hence promoting quality research,
teaching and community service programmes at the Institute;
2. Teach at least two units in an academic year as part of your workload;
3. Oversee/supervise all functions of the Institute including formulating and reviewing all
programmes;
4. Monitor and evaluate strategic and development plans, realistically and in a timely
manner;
5. Initiate and implement capacity building programs geared towards equipping the
Region
for effective/efficient integration and sustainable development;
6. Initiate continuous publicity of IRID through the media as well as through the Institute’s
networks and contacts in Regional Integration;
7. Establish continuous liaison/engagement with partners and stakeholders to identify the
research and teaching needs that IRID should meet and to ensure that IRID’s profile
continues to grow;
8. Create linkages with other research and academic institutions that will be beneficial to
IRID;
9. Establish a Regional Integration Resource Centre at the Institute;
10. Monitor, evaluate and report on the performance of IRID to CUEA top management as
well as to IRID partners and stakeholders;
11. Lead the Institute in resource mobilization to ensure availability of essential
resources to
support its programmes; this could be through initiating partnerships with donors and
other supporters and partners that will benefit IRID;
12. Coordinate staff and student recruitment at the Institute; including: making
recommendations for recruitment, and overseeing human resource mentorship and
development;
13. Organize and chair Faculty Academic and Examination Board meetings;
14. Represent the Institute in the University Management Board, Senate and other
Committees;
15. Oversee budget development and implementation as the Chief Accounting Officer in
the Institute;
16. Supervise and appraise the Heads of Units/Functions, lecturers and administrative staff
within the Institute;
17. Be a link between the Institute and various professionals, other institutes/faculties,
alumni directorate and institutions;
18. Promote a conducive working environment at the Institute including spiritual and social
welfare;
19. Present students for graduation;
20. Oversee timely processing of examinations as the Chief Examination Officer of the
Institute;
21. Promote professional development of all staff;
22. Ensure effective implementation of performance management system in the Institute;
23. Establish and manage a network of contacts that will be of value to the Institute;
24. Promote unity, justice and peace at the Institute;
25. Promote University’s Mission, Vision and Core Values;
26. Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills And Competencies:

  • Should be a PhD holder (in Social Sciences) or equivalent;
  • Good working knowledge of Africa and Africa’s Regional Communities;
  • Should be at the level of Senior lecturer and above;
  • Must have taught for at least seven years at University level;
