Job Summary:
  • You will manage and provide technical oversight of the development and implementation of the MWENDO in Western, Nyanza and part of Rift Valley in Kenya, ensuring effective systems and processes are in place that support high-quality programming advancing Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) work in serving the poor and vulnerable.
  • Your management skills and knowledge will ensure that the CRS Kenya delivers high-quality programming and continuously works towards improving the impact of its OVC programming.
  • Your thorough and service-oriented approach will ensure that the project consistently applies best practices and constantly works towards improving the impact of its benefits to those we serve.
  • You will supervise a number of MWENDO Project Staff and work closely with other departments within MWENDO to contribute to a holistic, integrated, and comprehensive project implementation.

    Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide management, guidance, and technical oversight of MWENDO project within Western Region to ensure project design, start-up, implementation and close-out are in line with CRS quality principles and standards, donor guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Effectively manage talent and supervise. Manage team dynamics and staff well-being. Provide coaching, strategically tailor individual development plans, contribute to the recruitment process of project staff, and complete performance management for direct reports.
  • Lead the development of program learning - identify opportunities for learning, research and publications in MWENDO Western Kenya region and implementation of MEAL policy.
  • Facilitate the dissemination of promising practices and lessons learned to contribute to the agency knowledge management agenda.
  • Ensure integration of innovations and best practices.
  • Oversee technical assistance and capacity strengthening activities in 13 Counties Western Kenya for staff, MWENDO LIPs and national and County governments (DCS, MoH, MoA) to enhance program quality and impact.
  • Act as a key resource person in project design and proposal development in respective programming area, gap-filling and taking on growth responsibilities, as needed.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate project expenditures in line with financial plans and efficient use and stewardship of project material sources.
  • Foster positive collaboration between MWENDO, CRS Kenya Projects being implemented in Western Kenya Region as well as between MWENDO and the Department of Children’s Services, MoH and other OVC stakeholders.
  • These are rooted in the mission, values, and guiding principles of CRS and used by each staff member to fulfill his or her responsibilities and achieve the desired results.

    Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:
    Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in International Development, International Relations or in Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, International Development, or a
    related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in relevant field-based project management experience required, with preferably at least 2-3 years working in OVC programming
  • Experience in managing complex projects preferably with an international NGO.
  • Good experience in project grants management, including project design, preferably for grants from multiple public donors, including USAID.
  • Experience engaging with partner organizations
  • Experience contributing to the development of technical proposals.
  • MEAL skills and experience required.
  • Staff management experience and abilities that are conducive to a learning environment.
  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, information management systems.
  • Familiarity with USG rules and regulations.

  • Travel Required
  • Ability to travel within Kenya on a regular basis.
  • Willingness to travel outside of Kenya to attend conferences, workshops or other related activities.
  • Internal: MWENDO SMT and CRS Kenya Head of Programs; CRS Kenya Program team, Finance, Procurement, and HR/Administration, and EARO Regional Technical Advisors.
  • External: MWENDO consortium members, government ministries at the National, County, and Sub-County levels, Child Protection and OVC Networks, research institutions, and relevant private sector entities
