CARE Expert for Organisational and Strategic Development Jobs in Kenya


Job Summary:

  • The overall objective of this consultancy is to provide need-based support for the local NGO AI by capacity building, specifically related to fundraising, project management, human resources, financial management and integration of policies (e.g. gender / child protection and safeguarding) with the key objective of increased operational efficiency and for improved internal functionality.

  • The development process will be carried out as a main part of a project funded by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in cooperation with CARE Deutschland e.V..

    Job Responsibilities and Tasks/Deliverables:

  • Together with the respective colleagues from the AI the consultant should deliver the following:

    Strategic Development

  • Collection of additional data necessary for the development of the strategy, in addition to the already existing organisational evaluation.

  • Develop a five-year strategic plan that will focus on the organisations sustainability model and help the organisation improve its effectiveness and reach in the community.

  • Identify at least one source of secured financing to ensure the organisation´s sustainability and ongoing operation.

    Operational

  • Formation of a management team, comprising at least 1/3 women in decision-making positions.

  • Establish an effective M&E system and enforce its application.

    Internal Policies

  • Develop internal policies related to gender equality and child safeguarding in cooperation with the CARE Germany Gender Advisor and enforce their implementation.

  • Develop internal SOPs on financial, HR and administrative processes and enforce their implementation.

  • Train all relevant staff on implementation of internal policies and SOPs to ensure adherence.

    Staff Capacity

  • Tailor further capacity training to the needs of the staff and organisation with the aim of strengthening self-management, fundraising, project development and project management capacities.

  • Establish learning and knowledge generation as an integral part of everyday work at the organisation.

  • In cooperation with CARE Germany´s Gender Advisor enforce
    the participation of all staff in specific gender training.

    Qualifications / Requirements:

    Education & Training:

  • Master’s degree in Organisational Development, Change Management or other relevant academic field.

    Experience:

  • Minimum five years of work experience in institutional development of organisations in developing countries.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading national teams and developing their capacities in the areas of strategic and organisational development.

  • Ability to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and develop comprehensive reports for different stakeholders.

  • Ideally experience in working in a slum context, if possible in Kenya.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex environments, work across different cultures and manage diverse teams to deliver program outcomes within agreed timelines.

    Language Competency:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Kiswahili and English.

    Key Competencies:

  • Cultural sensitivity and proven capacity to adapt to new cultures without prejudice of any sort.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Willingness to work in a slum context.

  • Capacity to build and motivate effective teams.

  • Acting with high degree of integrity and professionalism.

  • Dynamic, highly motivated and balancing future vision with practical delivery.
